Disc-at-once is a burn option and is not related to the gaps between tracks - even with this option enabled there will be 2 second gaps between tracks.

The only solution is not to use Media Player to burn CDs.

Thanks Dean that clears most things up. The 'disk-at-once' option is followed by (no gaps) in brackets, although you can hear the gaps. If it is just a burn option, what is it doing to the files? Does it reduce the bitrate of some tracks?

I do use different Media Players for different purposes, but I am suspicious that they either interfere with each other, or Windows updates affect them.

Maybe you're just hiding the toolbars?

I cannot find them, except as drop-downs on the buttons or by switching to the Classic menus which only makes Tools for the viualisations more obvious.
Right-click on the tool bar and the "classic"  File/Tools/Play/View/Help menu appears - the last option is "Show Classic Menu" select that and the classic menu tool bar is always visible.

Media Player 11 adds 2 second gaps between tracks and this cannot be turned off.

Apparently you can achieve gapless playback of using media player if you rip the CD in Lossless format - however this does not affect CD burning.

Disc-at-once is only an option for doing direct copies of CD's. If there are no gaps on the original then so it will be with the copy. MP3 to Cd conversion you need to tick the "no gaps" option.

He should download a free burning software. Bound to be loads out there.

I had WinAmp and, as with Google Chrome, deleted it because I couldn't get on with it. I'll have to give it another go.

I have never had a problem with Winamp. It's very easy to use and it plays a lot of different formats.
