Good move , my favorite Gong's LP (With Live Gong issued on Virgin in ... 1975 I think and Continental Circus movie soundtrack, filmed in 1969/70 issued in 1972)) Fav track from You is still ' Isle of everywhere' I have always been more impressed by their musical qualities than by their weirdo and wacky humor. In the same genre I recommend the soundtrack of Jérôme Lapéroussaz 's movie Continental Circus. No synths or sequencers at that time, just glissando guitar and effects.. This soaring music announcing the flying teapots but that accompanied a film about the world of the independent earthly speed bikers. It is quite paradoxical isnt'it ? |

Ozric Tentacles ... always the same always different Noden Ictus : Ozric's related space/transe stuff Quantum Fantay : sort of Ozric made in Belgium Ship of Fools : Do they still exist ? Kosmogon : Mässan CD ( Nicklas Berg (from Anekdoten) project ) : like The tangerine dream I like ( Phaedra, Rubycon, Ricochet) My Brother the Wind ; also a Niklas Berg 's project , great free form stuff Causa Sui from Dannemark By the way we labelled this kind of music as Space rock but Sounds are made of material longitudinal waves travelling through physical mater ( air but also water, solid and other gases than air) In the void of space there is ..no atoms... no matter ... no waves so sound doesn't travel at all in space |

I love Daevid Allen's Gong 1970-1974 + Shamal-Gong (not equally crazy 'bout the rest, I rather reach for Fish Rising over Gazeuze or Expresso II). You in particular is a desert island disc for me. A genuine trip and pyramid building masterpiece finale. But really I think all of Radio Gnome Invisible 1-3 is my favorite trilogy in all of the arts. Regardless of shape, form or medium.

knowledge) the closest ever Gong* came to sound in studio compared to
how they come across from all the old live clips I've seen. *I'm sure most of you know already, but in case some of You dont, this is peak era Gong in all but the name on the album cover: Dashiell Hedayat: keyboards, guitar, tape, vocals, writer and performer

Hi, I'm not enjoying OT as much as I did 20 years ago. They kinda got a bit boring after John left, and Zia on the bass was not great ... just nice, but not very inventive or creative. When Brandi took over the bass, I thought it might be interesting, but she looked like she was still learning, and it was very basic for a while, and since then, the band has suffered. Basically it has gone slightly downhill, and not learned how to get creative and interesting ... probably too much Ed Wynne, and not enough anyone else. The family band idea was interesting, but I think it also hurt the creativity ... it became all Ed and while Silas has definitely gotten better, in the process I think that Brandi suffered, and it appears that their relationship took a hit ... not sure. The couple of shows on the net, are not that great. The bass player has the personality of a lamp post and the girl playing the flute, might be better, if they figured out how to make sure the flute can be heard ... and her dancing/prancing ... is ... well ... boring. I think that OT best days, are behind them, and very far. Still love them, but sadly the replayes of old material is not even exciting. It was cleaner with Brandi.

Hi, I'm glad to see this here. The Grateful Dead deserves to be mentioned on the history of "progressive" music, and while we concentrate on Echoes, CTTE and a few other things, some material like this one ... gets left behind, because it is American and not of English birth ... since they invented the world! it's even sadder still that much of PA has gone to the "song" definition of "progressive" and "prog" and made the definition designed for the folks here, a bit left behind and ignored. Some of the materials/ideas mentioned in the definition exist in a lot of other musics out there, thus making the idea, of a guitar solo, redundant ... or the change of chords, even worse. But extending a piece of music, and making it work, is something only the greats can do well, and The Grateful Dead deserve to be mentioned alongside of many of these ... besides one really important thing ... they didn't have to be super loud to get your attention, and that "solo" was not present by itself, so the guitarist looks like ... some dog out there! The design of most excellent music is not about the solo itself ... it's about that solo being a part of the whole thing and kinda working itself in and out, without the ego/media attention ... and the GD had that in abundance. Some bands were louder and noisier ... but The Grateful Dead gave meaning to the QUALITY of the music they played ... THEY HAD THE BEST SOUND SYSTEM OF ANY BAND OUT THERE. While others got louder, the GD got cleaner and prettier to enjoy ... now you know why so much of "pigprog" does not attract me at all ... you don't need the "solo", or the "attention", unless your music is far less valuable and important, and the loud part and solo makes it seem more important. Also far out ... that GONG piece ... I have to get that CD now!

From my current town of Kettering, the (now defunct) band 'Thee Telepaths' released 'The Velvet Night' in 2019. I found it at Rocket Records about a year after the stopped playing; Still sealed, creased and a little beaten on the sleeve but cheap enough to take a punt on. 3 fuzzed-out, spacey suites with a 70's garage rock vibe, listed on their Bandcamp as the separate parts, but on the album sleeve just as 'Alpha Parts I-V (19:45), Epsilon Parts I-III (11:10), Delta Parts I-IV (11:09).'

How you conduct your own threads is your business. But knowing that you've spent maybe an average of five minutes or something for each of these albums - the ratings of complete discographies in other peoples threads borders on spamming in my opinion. It's like postulating your opinion of a novel after having read the first, tenth, thirtieth, ninetieth and two hundredth page. You do as you please, but I think it's a little unfair to the creators and artists.

^ Contrary to popular belief, I've listened to all of those albums in full, including everything Hawkwind-related, everything Gong-related and everything Steven Wilson-related.
It's only when I'm throwing polls together in my usual slipshod and haphazard manner that I don't have time to listen to the albums in full.
