Hi, AND THEY ARE ALL DIFFERENT and not from the main stream of all music, as you can tell and see from pretty much all of my postings. It's that top ten mentality that I will not adhere to, and wish more folks admitted that the majority of the "favorites" are not always the best stuff out there. Along with Space Pirate Radio (all the way back to 1974!!!), easily 10 years ahead of the time when it comes to the music choices, and unlike a lot of postings here, Guy played full albums and gave all artists a GREAT CHANCE, and these days, almost everyone is making a choice off 5 minutes of nothing! Well, not exactly "nothing" but not really a good showcase for a "composer", since that bit is mostly "recognizable", and not new or special! Folks here, with a handful of exceptions, only know a song, maybe two. (hopefully not that bad!!!) This just shows the effect that "urban" music is having on music history, which the academic world STILL will not accept, and sometimes they have it right, but there are some folks within these "urban" circles that are far and away better and should be given proper consideration. I don't think that "urban music" (to use a term by SW) is going to last much longer beyond being known to be a commercial product! The great things to come are ALL in new music ... not a single of those bands listed is good enough to create a 5th, or a 9th, and show you and I wrong and help frame "progressive music" much further up than behind, as some sort of formulaic MOR piece of music, which is what it is becoming.

^ So you're still convincing yourself that you understand music better than anyone else here?
People make individual and personal choices and presumably enjoy those choices. There is absolutely NO moral imperative and there is no right or wrong in how you appreciate and enjoy music. Music is mainly entertainment and not just an intellectual idea that you hi-jacked for yourself to seemingly bash everyone over the head with on a recurring ad nauseum basis. Just get a life.

But the samey stuff that DT has put out is pretty much krapp....You can have great samey stuff (TFK...) and krapp samey stuff (DT).... That's my point.... As far as Neal Morse, who I enjoy in his early solo albums, his NMB stuff is just boring to me now, to me obviously not to his fans.

Thats the thing about the upcoming Haken album - I think its going to be a "back to roots" album In some way. Listen to the first single they released this year "nightingale". Wow thats such an amazing song! Sounds like it came right away from Vision or The Moutain. Then, the second single "The Alphabet of Me" just proves that Haken are one of the most creative metal bands out there. It is so unique and new. Even a bit Pop-ish but in a good way. Anyway, 2023 sounds really promising. Im sooooooooooo exited for the new Earthside album. been waiting for so long and its finally happining. Also expecting the upcoming Yossi Sassi record. I hope that Zoop and Southern Empire will release something.

Hi, Music, for me, WAS NEVER ENTERTAINMENT. And that is the difference. Starting with a household that had over 3K LP's of classical music (over 100+ operas), the variety in it was what ended up showing itself to me as valuable and important, and the "urban styles" (per SW) of selecting many of these things, is fine with me, although I am a believe that if you listen to more things, and have a wider listening experience, than just your favorites, that your music choices change right away. This is not bashing at all ... it is a suggestion that there is a lot more music out there, and that slimming down the number of choices, is not allowing many of us to appreciate new things rightly and correctly. Folks, indeed, have their own choice and I will always stand up for it, however, my thoughts are that being aware of the "difference" and a lot of other materials, ends up being a much more satisfying musical experience all around, than being disappointed that the album by X, or Y or Z is not really that good, or perhaps we get taken for a ride with an album that has superb technical recording, but the music really did not get elevated because it was not helped beyond the recording design and thoughts. I, kinda call it ... listening to it all as a 3-D experience, and to me, just like film, the NEWER things have always come from somewhere else ... and not the same folks. There are/were a couple of folks that blew that apart (Godard being one!) but there has never been a band that pulled a Godard, yet ... and it won't be heard amidst these lists, I don't think, thus making the choices a "favorite" rather than really good musical choices ... by whichever standard one uses, though a couple of folks think mine is this or that and in the end, I have no preference ... except new things, because you already heard the old! This is not a comment about JT and so many other bands that have done outstanding and far out stuff over their years of music, but it is a comment that history has shown that CHANGE is what it is all about ... not the same stuff or folks!

I expect a new studio album from Focus to come out in 2023. Thijs van Leer has said in interviews that the band are working on a new album that will be called Focus 12. Still no official announcement though, and no release date. |

That was old material, if you think about "Jord Sessions" and "Nattfiolen Suite". New album will be called "Salighet", due summer 2023.

A new Earthside album would be great indeed. I'm looking forward to new music from Zopp and Southern Empire.

I'm also excited for Earthside. I didn't like the last single by Haken. The haven't surpassed the heights (pun very much intended) of The Mountain, for me at least. I also love Affinity and Restoration, I rarely listen to anything outside of those three.
The Cocoon is from the adjacent projects the one I enjoy the most. Nova Collective, Tiktaalika and Novena are all good, excellent musicianship, but I don't connect with them as much. I don't care for To-Mera at all. The Resonance Project sounds Haken-ish and they are great musicians. I recommend it to everyone interested in Haken. Edited by edefakiel - December 13 2022 at 12:05 |

Petrucci said that they will record only in the end of the next year, so I expect next album to be out only in 2024.

There will probably come a new Nixen Blixen or two, if they can go on like this.

I so hope Haken's Fauna is even remotely as good (or similar too) as The Mountain or Aquarius. Fingers crossed.
