I like pop and I thought the latest SW album sucked. In this case, it has nothing to do with being open-minded or closed-minded. It is a question of taste. Being open to pop doesn't mean you have to like everything.

I understand what you're saying here, but you could literally say this about any fan of any genre of music. I know some pop and country folk who think their sh*t don't stink, much worse than any proggies I know personally. In my personal experience, however, I've found metalheads (this isn't metal! That production isn't brutal enough! etc.) to be the biggest aggravation in terms of that "ego barrier" you refer to. I feel your point applies to all genres, not just prog.
