I did not mention Kermani because he is a celebrity. I mentioned him because he is as unsuspicious of involvement in terrorist activities as can be. all his writings and speeches are proof of that

Sorry, yeah, I realise that. It wasn't a shot at what you were saying in any way. I just sort of made an association to this Spiegel article and went off on one.
On an entirely different note: could someone explain to me the difference between fake news and alternative facts? They seem to be the same, except one of them is Trump-approved, and the other one isn't. Edited by npjnpj - January 31 2017 at 02:25 |

Ah, it's beginning to make sense now. Thanks.
And what about the guy who was prevented fron entering the USA two or three days ago because records show that he stole a car on a previous visit (I'm not making this up). It didn't make any difference that at the time he 1) wasn't in the country, and 2) he was six xears old. He was still turned back. How ...?, I mean .... what?, .... words fail me. |

Something I don't think is getting enough press are Russia's ties to various secession movements in the United States. A rather compelling KQED article about Yes California published in December should have received more attention than it has.
I'm not entirely sure that the Rogue POTUS Staff Twitter account is legit, but one of the posts in reference to secession was rather alarming. See: https://twitter.com/RoguePOTUSStaff/status/825509928781623296 It seems rather doubtful to me that a succession movement could succeed in the U.S., particularly in light of this article in New York Magazine it sounds almost impossible: http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2017/01/is-california-really-going-to-secede.html But, imagine the political ramifications of such a thing actually happening.

Appose? Typo, or genuine belief in comparative equivalence? //EDIT: Or maybe they believe Donald Trump is affixing their viewpoint to something? Edited by Gamemako - January 31 2017 at 09:48 |

There have occasionally been threats by Bavaria to leave the Federal Republic of Germany, especially when Franz Josef Strauss was still alive. Nothing ever came of it. The "Münchner Lach- und Schießgesellschaft" (meaning "Munich Laughing- and Shooting Society"; the name is an untranslatable wordplay with "Wach- und Schließgesellschaft" meaning "security company" or literally "guarding and locking company"), a highly influential group of political cabaret in Germany (another one was the "Berliner Stachelschweine" meaning "Berlin Porcupines", both had regular TV-shows and occasionally worked together), at one time (in 1971) had a program called "Der Abfall Bayerns" ("The Secession of Bavaria"). For those of you who understand German here is a little excerpt from it, a song about smuggling goods into Bavaria that are forbidden or not available in seceded Bavaria: |

I now get a 404-error on those petitions links. Some evil play's afoot.

No, the ":" is missing in the web address. Just remove the "http//" and the link works. Edited by BaldFriede - January 31 2017 at 10:46 |

Well, tonight is the night the GOP gets rewarded for their taking the Supreme Court hostage.
Trump is to announce his pick in around 30 minutes, and (dangerous to say this!) if things go as expected....his pick will be either Tom Hardiman or Neil Gorsuch, with the latter having the edge. From all I read both are firmly conservative but in the normal realm...doesn't seem we're looking at Clarence Thomas/Robert Bork here. Gorsuch also has immaculate credentials and a good personality (unlike Scalia). Seems there's no ideological reason for the Dems to fight it....especially since that'd risk the filibuster and we're super f**ked down the road then. Democrats were screwed out of the chance to tilt the court in their favor BUT technically things will remain as before. 5-4 conservative with 3 hardliners and 2 moderates. Especially as Roberts has become quite centrist over time. The balance from pre Scalia to post wont be altered so guess the GOP has succeeded |

Well, as far as the start of the day here in Europe and
watching the USA goes, it's pretty lame, compared to last week. So, Neil
Gorsuch hm? Ho-hum. Is everyone paralyzed? Edited by npjnpj - February 01 2017 at 02:25 |

@SteveG: You're right, except that in the case of Nixon et al, they didn't give a damn while this one thrives on it.
He seems like some sort of protest-energy vampire. |
