Are we going off-topic again? Maybe it's time I featured another Tangerine Dream album.

^ How about a tribute thread to The Tangent, then no one will mind if it goes off at a tangent, if you see it from my angle.
While we're on the subject of tangents, did you know there's a Tangerine Dream tribute artist going by the name of Tangent Dreams?

"Tangent Dreams aka James Miller is a musician (keyboards, guitars, vocals and saxophones) and an electronic music composer since 1994. Born in London in 1984 he is currently making music while travelling the world." (Discogs) Apparently, he makes his own music, but "expanding the TD universe". Anyway, back to other issue, I'd say there's a positive change, so you're not so prissy anymore, but it could still be better - and I know, other people has been bothered by it as well. Sorry, Paul, but I had to finish it. |

It is clear you are holding a grudge for a long time and can't let go of a simple disagreement. Putting someone down implies malicious intent which I do not have any. Please let it go, you keep picking on me and start being off topic, how many times do you need to be told to stick to the topic of the thread. |

I'll be sure to feature Tangent Dreams' albums here when I've finished listing all of Tangerine Dream's albums, so it should be some time next year then.

Nice! A few comments:
I discovered Richard via Fortuna Records (he later moved to American Gramaphone), since Steve Roach was his labelmate at the time. Burmer's music is utterly unique. I dubbed it "storybook EM" because he defied categorization. Sadly, in his final years he may have been homeless. He hadn't released an album for a long time. Mosaic is his first album; his second is Bhakti Point, and it's amazing.
His best one is probably Paradigm Shift. (Mark has released his albums only on CDr since 2008.)
Snapshots 1.2 features more soundtrack work!
His early albums Astral Voyage, Oasis, Ki and In Person are spectacular.
POH's first two, Ancient Dreams and Between Two Worlds, are classics!
Going for the three! His debut And the Stars Go with You is outstanding. So are both Planetary Chronicles volumes (released before/after Midsummer Century).
You need Nocturne!
You need the reissue of his first album Optimystique. You'll scarcely believe it's the same guy!

^ Thanks for the recommendations. I doubt if I'll be expanding my Electronic Music collection though, as the shop where I used to buy my EM CD's from (Midas Records in Derby) closed down in the late 1990's. One album I will be looking out for though is Tangerine Dream's outstanding Legend soundtrack, which is easily my favourite TD album overall.

The nearest store that stocks any EM at all is roughly a two-hour drive for me, so I buy online.

A round-up of the 28 Tangerine Dream albums featured here so far, marking the end of an era when Johannes Schmoelling left the band after the recording of the outstanding Legend soundtrack, and the beginning of a new era with Austrian musician Paul Haslinger making his first appearance in the TD trio for their next album: Underwater Sunlight.

1986: Underwater Sunlight - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_ltJyvHBGmdFOcB5oZfaYZ8ao0uu3YDwiM
Underwater Sunlight is the 29th Tangerine Dream album overall and their 16th studio album, although I almost lost count whilst following the on-going debate between David & Cristi. Underwater Sunlight is a shimmering beauty and a real humdinger of an album, notable for being the first of many albums to feature Austrian musician Paul Haslinger in the TD trio, so plenty to look forward to in the future I'm sure. Track Listing:- 1. Song of the Whale, Part One: From Dawn... (8:25) 2. Song of the Whale, Part Two: ... To Dusk (10:53) 3. Dolphin Dance (5:05) 4. Ride on the Ray (5:30) 5. Scuba Scuba (4:30) 6. Underwater Twilight (5:50)

Not every TD album can be a 5-star masterpiece. Underwater Sunlight is still an excellent album though, so I'll give it four and a half stars.

Take that 5th star from Logos (because of Side B) and give it to Underwater Sunlight. US is a perfect album, IMO. The first side alone is exceptional. Paul's piano flourish and Edgar's rock god guitar solo (hi, Trane!) are two exclamation points at the end of a flawless sentence.

^ I couldn't possibly rate Underwater Sunlight higher than any of Tangerine Dream's superb Live albums. I'm saving that elusive fifth star for the next album, Tyger, Tyger, burning bright, which is burning very brightly indeed from what I've heard of the album so far, and some of the music includes lyrics too!
By the way, I've just taken a look at the overall PA rating for Underwater Sunlight, where it's rated as 3.72, so on the presumption that 207 prog reviewers can't be wrong, I was relatively generous in giving the album a full 4-star rating. Edited by Psychedelic Paul - August 23 2022 at 16:15 |

Awright, no more trips to the pub, sir!
I wager most of them are "casual" fans who prefer '70s TD. In EM circles across the decades, especially the old TD list and forum, Underwater Sunlight enjoyed no shortage of well-deserved accolades. It's a perfect album. I do like Tyger, don't get me wrong, but the album gets some help from the two instrumentals that were initially CD bonus tracks.
