The 2014 Fifa World Cup Thread

Ok, it's only 4 weeks or less to the big event. This thread is to discuss all things WC. Favorites? Who do want to win? And who do you think will win?

I used to like Brazil’s national team. I have always gone for Germany first, and then it was usually Netherlands or Brazil. But I’m getting tired of Brazil winning, and I don’t sympathize much with the current type of football and the players (Neymar, who plays in my FCB, still included since he hasn’t shown sh*t, unlike former glorious Romario or Rivaldo).

And, curiously, I used to despise Argentina. I still don’t really love the national team, but thanks to el jefecito Mascherano and, especially, to Messi, if a South American team wins, I want it to be Argentina.

Again, the one I want to win is Germany, followed by Argentina and Spain.

My own country? Come on I wish them the best but I’m not delusional… yet

I was betting on Uruguay to ruin the Brazilian party again, but with Suarez now KO I guess there isn't much of a chance of that happening.

I have this funny hunch (despite physio) that the Europeans will 'slay their dragon' this year i.e win the WC on South American soil for the first time.
I'd like Germany to win it simply because I love their style of play but perhaps more importantly, I'd heartily rejoice if anyone gives the English the damn good spanking they richly deserve. Is that mean spirited? Probably, but I'm Scottish and as as far as football goes, all we have to offer is an exported fine distilled blend of finely wrought schadenfreude

Well being English I'm hoping for a England win though I rate their chances as extremely low, probably less than 5%. Most England fans seem to be limiting their aspirations to hoping they play well and the younger players showing well. If we get knocked out on penalties we'll at least have got out of the group.

Ahh, Belgium... They were brilliant during the quallifying stages, but how will they deal with the Brazilian pitches and weather? 

One of the very few times Belgium have more players with gravitas and oumph then nighbour Nethrlands ( and France), they will seriously be a outider and possible trophy, posdible.

If the World Cups have told us anything, is that dark horses never win. 

Well, Germany might have been a dark horse back then but nobody would put them as one now. And Uruguay... well, they fight. And they have two world cups in their trophy collection so dark dark they might not be.
