...At the Rock and Roll hall of Fame  Induction for Genesis.  I can't believe there was not one mention of it here!

And then Trey Anatasio from Phish induction speech:

Good effort to play this in front of the men from genesis...

It is interesting looking at the reactions of the audience to the choice of music, in particular Phil and Steve.

Its a good cover, although the vocals could've been a lot better imo. Still fun to watch though.

I think the point being this was broadcast out on TV as this song opened the ceremonies.  I thought how fantastic it was to have this song being played at such an obvious non prog rock crowd.  And Trey speaking from the heart of a prog fan about Genesis.  I really appreciated the effort he did.

Thats a good point; they could've gone with a crowd pleaser like I Can't Dance or Invisible Touch It is good they chose a prog classic though.

Pretty good cover. It's really great that they chose to play one of Genesis' best songs, rather than any of their top 10 hits. My only real complaint is the mediocre vocals; they could have been much better.

WOW! Very good cover, but what I found most appealing was that it was perfomed in the R&R Hall of Fame!

It was really cool to see Eddie Vedder, Iggy Pop and Steve Hackett!

I really couldn't careless about the R&R Hall of Fame, but Phish's speech was spectacular.

Pretty good performance, I must say.  Trey's speech was good, although I could kind of tell that he felt forced to give respect to the Pop years when he really cared more for the Prog years.  Oh well, that's what I expect from the RRHOF.Ermm

That this thread was banished of this area of PA really shows that this website is not in favor of promoting  the genre.   Tell me I am wrong any admin that moved this?  Why?  I do not get it.

Okay maybe so but it wasn't just one part of Genesis that was inducted. lol  There was more to it than just the speech they ran a 5 minute montage of the group showing a good bit film from the Shepherdstown gig and the Italian TV shows in the SEBtP/Foxtrot era.  All in all pretty cool.  Even if Genesis wasn't your favorite band they represent a lot of things we like.  I really think the hall paid respects to the entire carrer and not just the most popular

Is it just me or do Hackett and Collins seem to really be enjoying Watcher Of The Skies but Rutherford and Banks seemed pissed off? LOL

^ There was a 6 page thread over at PE about that very thing. LOL How do any of us know what they were thinking?
At the after event interviews I believe there was some genuine surprise from the band about the choice of the song. Maybe my favorite moment was after Rutherford and Collins said their piece for the acceptance speach Hackett walked up to mike and plugged his tour this spring.  LOL

Thought it was quite amusing the different facial expressions from Genesis - Rutherford/Banks both looked mildly annoyed, Collins looked mildly amused & Hackett quite wistful.

Oh yes & a good shot of Meryl Streep looking a combination of bored & slightly confused

Good performance by Phish though

Yeah I noticed the Meryl bit and thought I saw signs that it was new to her but she was starting to get in to it.

why can phish bring more of their prog influences back into their own music? i know they have on the recent one, but it was for one song.

otherwise, good performance. Phish play prog as good as any other! i didnt mind the vocals, as Trey sounds pretty good, that is HIS voice
