Topic: 2112 !? Posted: May 23 2009 at 16:42 |
I never really though of this until today... because my dad's pal came over. We started talking about music, then Rush, then I brought up "2112". I told him how I really liked "Two One One Two", and he said "What the hell is Two One One Two?". I didn't know what to say, because he is the guy who introduced me to Rush... after a couple seconds he blurted "Oh! You must mean Twenty One Twelve!"
How do you pronounce this album's name? (even though I'm guessing Twenty One Twelve is the correct way). I went through years of ignorant bliss, calling it Two One One Two.

I believe it's generally pronounced twenty-one-twelve. Named after Neil Peart's locker in high school, IIRC. My friend went to the same school (thirty-some years later) and says that it kept getting stolen. The locker, I mean.

I knew I was wrong as soon as I heard it the "proper way". I had that strange "man I'm dumb" feeling in the pit of my gut. Thanks guys!

That's okay. A lot of the time there are a ton of guys with foreign names that I don't know how to pronounce, and I'm shocked to see an interview of them and their names are pronounced completely different from what I thought (Thomas Haake)
More importantly, how do you pronounce that Ayreon album's name?

Because of the way the logo is designed I used to think 7 Up was Zup.

In English it's most fluent as twenty one twelve, but usually for me it's kaks yks yks kaks.

^Nah, Finnish, that's much weirder
Actually it's written and pronounced kaksi yksi yksi kaksi, but I can't bother saying those last letters, so in reality when I say that out loud it's pretty close to kaksyksykskakkonen. Easy enough?

Sounds fun learning Finnish
That's very Klingonish if I do say so myself, mainly because of the mass of K's!
