 Topic: Guilty Pleasures

What are some artists/songs that you wouldn't openly admit to liking, especially in front of all these prog fans? I am ashamed to say that i like one emo band under the name of Saves the Day. They are a very good band in my opinion. Oh and I also like some songs by the Dixie Chicks

I used to love Saves the Day. Can't Slow Down was a great pop/punk release and one of my favorite albums for about a year. I liked the subsequent releases through In Reverie. They were evolving nicely and kept every album fresh and interesting and then they spiraled back to playing stuff like Can't Slow Down and Through Being Cool again and that's where I quite following them. Not really my style these days.

Well for me, it's not exactly guilty, except around prog fans. Then it becomes very guilty.
Punk rock, guilty as charged. But in essence I owe it to punk rock for all the music I listen to now. It was a chain effect. Punk got me into classic rock which got me into old metal which got me into newer metal which got me into progressive, and now I listen to everything from punk rock and old prog to death metal.
Yea... you can all say Green Day blows and The Ramones suck and Blink-182 is talentless.. and even though you may be right, they all suck at their instruments, it was / is still very fun music to listen to and I shuffle around with it from time to time.

Yeah that sounds kinda like me, but man they are way better than most emo/alternative bands out there. They can actually construct a good riff.

Probably mentioned it before, but my guilty pleasure band is the White Stripes. What can I say, Jack's a hell of a songwriter.

I mean, it's not exactly a guilty pleasure to like bands that some other people might not. There's a ton of bands that I love that everybody else here probably hates yet I don't feel guilty about it.

Yeah, no guilty pleasures for me, more of a case of stuff that is prog to me not officially prog here. There's some stuff I taped from live broadcasts: Men At Work, Flock Of Seagulls, etc. that might qualify if I actually bothered to listen to them anymore. If guilty pleasures solely consist of artists that aren't accepted at the PA yet: Sarah McLachlan, Tori Amos, Bruce Hampton, David Sancious, Nine Inch Nails, The Observatory, Harold Budd, Eluvium, Praxis, Talking Heads, L. No guilt there - 'Icky Thump' is the best album Led Zepp never made  Like that? Try his other band, The Raconteurs - superb!

guilty pleasures exist in the archives, too. I like Yellow Magic Orchestra more than most symphonic prog. =P

Oh, and I also like some smooth jazz like The Rippingtons, Lee Ritenour, Fourplay and Spyro Gyra.
I'm also a Parrothead (name given to Jimmy Buffett fans), although the luster has worn off just a bit. The guy has been reduced down to a novelty, but his music is fun.
