Both are very solid albums in my book. Clearly discipline takes huge influence from the talking heads, especially in the vocals. King Crimson might run away with This just cause the website we are on but honestly vote and give your reasoning.
I prefer the talking heads actually on this one. Never was a fan of the sheltering sky and the title track is a bit meh off discipline. |

I think the influence of Talking Heads on Discipline is somewhat overstated. I surely don't see more Talking Heads in Discipline than Moody Blues in ITCOTCK. There is a connection, sure, but all music is influenced by something, and Discipline is pretty high up the originality and innovation scale itself. I like the Talking Heads and Remain in Light is a fine album, but Disciplin is easily among my top 5 of all time.

I love Remain In Light but I do think it trails off a bit near the end. Discipline may not have been the same without it but I think it does enough to distinguish itself and has a lot more variety.

With no remain in light there would not have been discipline. I haven't heard RIL in quite a while and I'm not really super familiar with it anyway so no vote.

Discipline.....being a KC fan....., Remain is a good album but I never really warmed up to Byrne's voice.

^ interesting, I always though belew was strongly imitating Byrne in 80s crimson and they sound really close.

I saw David Byrne on Seth Meyers last night. He's doing some sort of musical performance thing these days. Not really sure of the details but maybe like some sort of opera. Anyway, I never had an issue with his voice and I like the T-Heads quite a bit. I remember this guy I worked with a long time ago(mid 90's) saying that he wasn't much of a fan of 80's King Crimson because it sounded too much like the Talking Heads(as if that was some kind of insult. Lol.).

Yep. Belew, Byrne and also Eno and Bryan Ferry all seem to have a very similar vocal range and sound imo.

Discipline is too cold, calculating, cybernetic, to be passionate about it (plus there are too many instrumental pieces).
For me, KC perform best when they play more rock or more melodic. Remain in Light has the same cybernetic setting, but a much warmer funky rhythm and almost paroxysmal rhythms, especially on the first side, which seems to me much better than the second. All in all I prefer it. They are records that give me a cerebral pleasure, which I consider important but I'm not appassionate about them, they do not warm my heart, and do not make me want to listen to them often, especially Discipline, which is innovative in terms of sound, in the evolution of KC, as Larks, but in the same way I prefer Red to Larks, I prefer Beat to Discipline.

Agree with this, although Discipline would not be in my top 5 of all time, but possibly in my top 25
