Just a funny question: Why are so many good guitar players called Steve? Like: Steve Howe Steve Hackett Steve Morse Steve Vai Steve Lukather Steve Winwood Steve Hillage ... and probably I missed some pretty good players. Strange, isn't it ? |

Could be because Steve is one of the more popular men's names in the English language, especially in the 30-50 age group.
But you may have something there; I can't think of nearly as many John's who are great guitarists. |

Funny I was just asking myself the same question now (one month later...great to use the "search" button) ! And I didn't know most of the names you give..I was starting with Steve Howe, Steve Hackett, Steve Vai, Steve Hillage. I wonder why this thread didn't have more success ! So maybe we could play a game : give the most represented first name for each instrument (limited to guitar, bass, drums, keyboards) in prog groups. Unfortunately my knowledge and my time is too limited to begin with something...I let experts debate about this ! |

What thread is that? What's it being called? I'll defend my thread against hostile take-overs! Edited by Moogtron III |

Good point, moogtron III. I started a very similar one (now more than 2 months later!) without knowing about it... I thought about the same thing several months ago, and I don't even know how to use the search button But let's face it: I came up with more steves, (though I cheated by including two vocal/keyboardists!!!) for those who wonder: http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=9524&a mp;TPN=1 P.S. I never heard of Steve Lukather before. where does he play? |

Listen to Turkish psych/prog; you won't regret:
Baris Manco,Erkin Koray,Cem Karaca,Mogollar,3 Hürel,Selda,Edip Akbayram,Fikret Kizilok,Ersen (and Dadaslar) (but stick with the '70's, and 'early 80's!) |

Yes, you beat me on the Steves ! Steve Lukather plays in Toto. He also used to play on zillions of American records, because he's a very well known session musician. |
