I must be obsessed or something, because the only new discoveries I'm looking for are in in this field - been like this for about a year.. I'm always looking.. Here are some of my favorites... If you aren't sure if its prog, list it anyway.. Lots of great acid folk, symphonic, and many other kinds I would call "prog".. I spent SO much time on the main page, and I love the tool to separate decades, and looked.. Didn't find any, despite being up til 3am searching, lol. -Illusion -Curved Air/Sonja Kristina -Mellow Candle -Carol of Harvest -Earth & Fire -Savage Rose -Fairport Convention -Sandrose -Stairway -Renaissance -Fantasy (US band from Florida) -Spirogyra -Mother Superior -Lily & Maria -Comus -Fotheringay -The Strawbs -Trees -Pentangle -Steeleye Span Edited by MortSahlFan - October 04 2020 at 13:06 |

Amon Duul II incorporated lots of female vocals. You might find their Wolf City album worth a listen.

Linda Perhacs - Parallelograms, very early Psychedelic/prog Folk with glorious vocal harmonies. Try Cimicum Rain and Parallelograms.

Great topic idea! I've been wondering myself why there's so little recommended with female vocals (or just with women in the band). I have only one band to offer, though I must admit I've only listened to them once. Once was enough to solidify how outlandish and imaginative they were though. Italian band - Opus Avantra.

Porg for short. My love of music doesn't end with prog! Feel free to discuss all sorts of music with me. Odds are I'll give it a chance if I haven't already! :)

I don't have a good grasp on what it is you're targeting, MortSahlFan!
Are you limiting your search to the 1970s or are you open to all decades of prog--cuz I have a TON of names if you're willing to listen to modern stuff.

Hi, Saw Babe Ruth in Hollywood at the Whiskey a Go Go ... eons ago ... and Janita Haan made Iggy look like a child on stage just trying to do something. On that night, Babe Ruth was vastly superior and put on a fantastic show.

Try Minimum Vital's "Esprit d'amour"
Incredible album. My favorite track is "Song a Cinq." The studio album recording and a live video of it are both up on YT. One of my favorite prog albums of all time, and Sonia Nedelec's vocals are heavenly. Reminds me of Relf, Haslam, Maggie Reilly, etc. Speaking of Maggie Reilly, she did some great stuff with Mike Oldfield. Her solo stuff isn't up to that level, though the track "Adelena" is awesome. Whooops, this wasn't a 1970's recommendation, sorry. Minimum Vital put that album out in the '90's, I think.

Definitely Inga Rumpf of Frumpy (who are undeservedly little known); she has one of the most powerful voices in prog. Here the energetic track "Take Care of Illusion" from their great second album (which i hereby highly recommend): Actually both Dagmar Krause and Inga Rumpf were once in a German band called "The City Preachers", which featured a certain Udo Lindenberg on drums who is one of the biggest rock stars in Germany, but as a singer, not a drummer. A biographic movie about him called "Mach dein Ding!" ("Do your Thing!") came out in Germany this year, in which Udo Lindenberg was played by German actor Jan Bülow. Lindenberg also was the drummer on the first album of Passport and the solo album of Frumpy keyboarder Jean-Jacques Kravetz. Inga Rumpf also was the singer of the band Atlantis, which had some prog leanings on their first two albums. Here a proggy song from their first album: The albums of both Frumpy and Atlantis are definitely worth listening to, especially their live albums. Grace Slick, the singer of Jefferson Airplane, made a few solo albums which are quite proggy, especially the first one. Here a 15 minute track from that album in which she sings in both English and Spanish: Edited by BaldFriede - October 24 2020 at 05:08 |

And if you want some really wild singing try the British band Catapilla (the spelling is correct for the band name) who made two albums in the early 70. Anna Meek really went crazy on the vocals. Here an example: Edited by BaldFriede - October 24 2020 at 07:00 |
