Topic: Best Camel studio albums? Posted: March 08 2005 at 02:21 |
The first album from Camel I ever heard was Moonmadness. It is still my favourite. Lunar Sea has to be the best Camel instrumental ever! Some of Andy Latimer's best guitar solos and Pete Bardens best keyboard playing! Spirit of the Water is a nice slow song and very atmospheric. Airborn and Song within a Song are also great!

Ooooh, this was hard.
I really like the first four and choosing between them was difficult. I finally went with "Mirage". I really like the rougher edge of the first two albums but "Moonmadness" and "Snow-Goose" are great also.

Mirage. You just can't go wrong with any song off that album. Especially Nimrodel and Lady Fantasy.

Unquestionably Mirage - with Harbour of Tears being the best non-Bardens album.

I've voted for 'Harbour of Tears', mainly because everybody would be voting for the classic 70s albums. Anyway, there's no song I dislike in 'Harbour of Tears', while I find some songs on 'Mirage' and 'Moonmadness' that doesn't do much for me, although they are probably favourites of many progheads here. I think the reason is that I don't like Barden's writting as much as Lamtimer's.

Moonmadness, just slightly ahead of Mirage.

Mirage. The Snow Goose used to be my favourite but nowadays I prefer Mirage. Their first album and Moonmadness are also good.

I ttotally agree!... but as a whole, I prefer the "Mirage" album, with "The Snow Goose" and "Rain Dances" matched simultaneously as close seconds.
Regards.

I'm a Moon Madness gent myself. Owned it all these years and I still don't get tired of it.
How rare is that in an album?

I think the first 4 are equally important and enjoyable...so I"m going to try voting multiple times, 1 time for each of the 4. But, forced, it's gotta be 'The Snow Goose'.

i chose the snow goose
but i was thinking about recently, i own every album from mirage to stationary traveller and even though some of those later albums arent as good as mirage - raindances, i still think they are great (especially nude, which i think ranks right up there with mirage- raindances)
this is probably the only band that i own a large part of their catalogue and like every album, also from what i have heard and read of their other albums, i plan on liking their entire catalogue, now if it were quantity over quality, camel would be my favorite band

Ah, my first love. I rank their first five albums quite equally, but Mirage
gets my vote for "Nimrodel" and "Lady Fantasy", Camel's two best songs.
