Topic: 2066 and Then - Reflections on the Future Posted: March 08 2010 at 19:00 |
Anybody heard the obscure progressive rock gem from 1972 by the band 2066 And Then entitled "Reflections on the Future"? It's got some really great stuff, IMO. 4 epic rock tracks, followed by a short number to end the album. The opener "At My Home" (which is actually 8 minutes long, not 5:12 as PA says it is) and the title track (16 minutes) are the best of the bunch. There's a lot of great guitar solos and keyboard solos, and some pretty dramatic songs.

I believe I've heard something by them when I was in charge of the Art Rock team, and we started a brief-lived cleanup session. Due to their name, they were one of the first bands to be listed. Anyway, I remember their music quite impressed me.

It's a truly great album, probably my favorite German album of all. Sometimes it gets lopped in with "krautrock," but it reminds me more of British proto-prog or the Italians, but with more complex arrangements.
There are supposedly 2 or 3 different versions of the album, some only existing on vinyl IIRC.

Twenty Sixty Six and Then is really great. Sad that they have only one album (though few versions of it..). My favourite songs are maybe "The Way That I Feel Today" and "Spring". Also "Reflections On The Future" (but I think there's too much soloing) and "Time Can't Take It Away" are quite epic. I think the music is somehow nicely... warm.
