Usually, when I am driving the car and I'm with some friend, it's "Hey, WE KNOW that you're not normal, but we like you anyway!", towards any kind of music I get to listen (prog, folk, Grateful Dead, Dylan)...

Some friends seems to enjoy the riff-filled songs by Dream Theater, like "The Mirror" "The Glass Prison" or the whole "ToT" CD, apparently because they can nod their heads
, if not exactly dance, to those songs.

One of the latest comments on my music was about Opeth "Ghost Reveries": "Ha ha, seems that this guy's getting sick on himself...!"

One thing that annoys me to no end is when Im listening to instrumental music (Liquid Tension Experiment, Camel the Snow Goose, early rick wakeman, or any Guitar virtuoso's of today) and people ask me "When does he start singing? It isnt a song if theres no singing." Almost everyone asks me that when the hear it. That annoys the hell aout of me for some reason.

And even though its not prog, one time i was picking up a friend to go to a party, and I didnt think of his taste in music when I loaded a cd into the car stereo. I was listening to Beethoven's 5th Symphony and really getting into it as I usualy do when I listen to any of Ludwig's work. When he got in the car and I started it again, he said "Eww man what the hell is that crap? Lets get on some Blink 182." I told him to find a differant ride or put up with it.

Another time I was listening to ELP in the car and this girl who was with me on a date said "Can we put on some Fall Out Boy? I dont like this old crap."  I didn't call her for a second date.

I have a suggestion - sell your friends/parents/relatives etc. into slavery and use the money to get yourselves some prog CDs.

My ex's reaction to Devin Townsend's "Infinity" was to put her hands over her ears and yell "this isn't even music".

Another quote, when listening to KC's "Red"... "This is horrible. The worst thing I've ever heard".

My parent's on any long instrumental:
"Why is there no singing?  Why is it just 'music'?"

My dad on Pain Of Salvation's Be Live:
"These guys sure do have long hair..."

Next one is from my 7 year old cousin on Opeth's Leper Affinity though so it's excusable :
"Why are they singing 'I am a baby' for?"

From a friend on Dream Theater's Instrumedley:
"It just sounds like a mish mash of noise"

I find it extremely annoying when I show a prog band to someone and they say it "sucks" I mean they could just say they dont like it or something. It doesnt "suck" most prog musicians as we all know are quite talented and I think thats a pretty obvious fact to even non-prog listeners.
If anyone knows where I can get a copy of some Flute and Voice (Indo-Prog/Raga Rock) albums please PM me! Many thanks!

Iv had:

'I like it but it is too long'

'How long does this go on for'

'So your going to write music and call it experimental'

But generally Iv had sneers and looks of disgused when I mention the dreded words 'pro-rock'.

When long instrumentals: "It's so boring!!!!"

When Yes playing: "Are they gay?" or "That sounds cheesy"

When King Crimson: "What's the point in this? It gives me headache"

When ELP: "Oh my God, this can exist??!!!"

and so on...

wife:  "Can we please lower this?"

we?

wife:  "He looks like Liberace". On seeing Jon Anderson's outfit the one and only time I ever took her to see Yes.

son number 1:  "He sounds like a girl". On hearing Jon Anderson.

son number 2:  "Is this Frank Zappa?" On hearing anything remotely strange sounding that he's never heard me play before.

My great Aunt Mary:  "THIS IS DISGUSTING!" On hearing the song I Am The Walrus, Christmas Day, 1970. My mom had bought me Magical Mystery Tour for a Christmas present. My first prog album ever!!! The only stereo we had was in the family room. I couldn't help it if she was sitting in there.

So much music. So little time.
