two different acts of metal from France, the prolific pro-vegan metal act Gojira and Alcest ;D whom is new to me, but i think it is interesting to set them up against eachother, two sludgy, technical and by their own way progressive band,

Usually I never choose the "both" options, but I can't choose. Both are great.

Gojira.
Their death-metal roots have more appeal for me, they sound more... "solid".

I love both, but I've spent a lot more time listening to Alcest and I assume that's because I like them more.

Gojira, though I wouldnt call them prolific as they havnt released anything since 2008.
Spending more than I should on Prog since 2005

None of these bands are sludgy.
Gojira is great. Quite unique. 

Alcest never did much for me, not even their non-black metal album they did at some point. I do understand their appeal, but I guess they're not my thing...
