I own both albums, and, while they are both excellent, I think Comus' debut has the edge over the other disc.

I demand you make a Spirogyra's Bells, Boots, and Shambles vs. Comus' To Keep from Crying poll! Now that would be really easy. Anyway, I really love both (and I loved both from the last poll too), but Comus' FU is such a staggering release.

St. Radiguns is a great discovery for me, and I would like to support more unexposed bands, but Comus is... Comus
Hearing right now, I love Gaskin's voice

Comus, by a mile. They're both great but Comus is just otherworldly in its entirety. I can say with confidence it'll always be in my top 5 favorite records.

Comus. I just listened to First Utterance again last night and I can't believe I forgot what a great song "The Herald" was.

Sometimes I feel like I'm the only person who appreciates 'The Herald', despite what an incredible song it is. You have renewed my hope in the human race. Thank you.

I had to go with Comus on this though St. Radigunds is fantastic. But FU is a unique output that beats allmost any other album in our universe.
Now, any album of Spirogyra beats "To keep from crying" easily. I suspect even if you'll ask if Britney Spears is better than that album I will hesitate for a second (and then vote for Comus. I went a bit too far with this example, I know !).

I like To Keep From Crying, its still got that weird folky edge you don't see too often, its just rubbish compared to First Utterance. I'll still give it a listen every once in a while though.
Is Comus up to anything now that they've reformed? I heard they wrote material for a follow-up to First Utterance back in the day but it never got recorded. It'd be a dream come true if they finished that up.

St. Radiguns would have gotten my vote if it was up against any other folk album.
