I've only heard two versions, and neither of the above were those two! One is the version used as the opening music to 'The Shining' and the other is The Enids', where they cross it with Ravels Bolero (to brilliant effect)

Does this have anything to do with Verdi's Dies Irae?

Hmm. I couldn't remember this on the movie "Shining", but remember from the beginning of "Equilibrium".
And also Symphony X album V's intro is an adaptation from this art piece. It is also cool, but the original one is great!!!

The music is at the very beginning of the Shining, and is accompanied by the ariel shots of Jack Nicholson driving through the mountains. It's a good version of Dies Irae, very tense and full of strange vocal sound effects. Worth listening out for.
