I have not seen a Robert Wyatt poll been made in a while. He is to me a godfather of prog. Hes one of my favourite singular forces of progressive music, hes style of merging jazz, psych, rock, pop and pastoral, in a uniqe fassion strikes me as one of the most clever minds in compositional prog. He also involves various sensabilaties and comunication tools, be it humor, political themes, silly, satire, sorrow and sincere happyness, to complete missary.

I am not fully schooled in Robert Wyatt, as i am uncertain to if I should have added both Dondestan, the release and the re-release, but bothare listed as official studio releases so i included both.

Enjoy and celebrate the wonderfull mr Wyatt

I have all of these Robert Wyatt albums and treasure them, but Rock Bottom is the clear masterpiece. It is one of my most treasured albums -- so special, remarkable and poignant to me.

I like watching documentaries and hear him talk about stuff. Hes a smart and curius fellow, reminds me of a 1800s character, a Dickensian figure pr a Carrolesque character, hes albums are like strange tales in various Wonderland-esque realms

Rock Bottom. Masterpiece. I don't care much for his other albums.

It would have been hard if Rock Bottom wasn't on here but that one is a treasure.
It's between these four after that.
The End Of An Ear
Old Rottenhat
Dondestan Revisited
Shleep
"The wind is slowly tearing her apart"

"Sad Rain" ANEKDOTEN

O. K. ,I find all of Robert's musical endeavors magnificent.  I am  most inclined to put on Rock Bottom or Ruth is Stranger Than Richard ;I love them both ...so I choose Ruth over Bottom. The horns, lyrics , and strangeness and the free jazz atmosphere just blow me away. Team Spirit and Ivor Cutler what more do you need.  "If your breasts are too large you will fall over; unless you wear a rock sack." Cutler words to live by.

Yes, only if all of Wyatt's full career was included - including Soft Machine's first four, Matching Mole, News From Babel, Mantler's Hapless Child etc... I would have to think for more than a second before eventually voting for Rock Bottom.

-I do love Cuckooland though.  The whole feel of that album is just a very nice place to revisit.

Yeah, Rock Bottom is magnificent and runs easily away with it. The rest of his work is great, too, though. Maybe a poll without Rock Bottom or just all after Ruth Is Stranger Than Richard could be interesting. I like the 2000s albums a lot, particularly Cuckooland. Ruth Is Stranger Than Richard also is a classy album.

I'll take his first three and Schleep.
let's just stay above the moral melee
prefer the sink to the gutter
keep our sand-castle virtues
content to be a doer
as well as a thinker,
prefer lifting our pen
rather than un-sheath our sword

I have not in my life seen anyone mention any RW album aside from Rock Bottom, and I'm actually kind of surprised that he has so many. But then there's always more canterbury stuff than you'd think, isn't there.

Rock Bottom, followed by Shleep. I take my role as an assistant professor of laundry very seriously.

Hi,

I don't know that I want to select one of my "children" ... when all of them play music, and they do so differently. I love them all!

DIFFERENT EVERY TIME ... and these albums are a treat, just like the book, if you have not read it ... it is very with it, and well "tuned" to the person and his feeling and feel for things in music.

He's the best "child" in music, still recording! And fun, too!
Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

Robert Wyatt have had a profound influence on Roland Orzabel in Tears for Fears, so much that he have made a TfF song were he homaged and tried to mimic the vocal style and music structure of a Wyatt song.

Great poll - I know it's not a proper Wyatt album but that wonderful compilation, 'Nothing Can Stop Us'... Outside of Rock Bottom, I reckon there would be an even spread.
