This time I'm pitting two sides of a "double album" against each other. It wasn't until recently that I learnt these were meant to be together at first!

Damnation here, no contest.
kind of a strange poll, the heaviest Opeth vs the mildest Opeth ![]() Edited by Cristi - November 13 2020 at 04:13 |

This on is the first "easy" choice for me. Love the atmosphere on Damnation, its album cover, ghastly tenderness etc., but it's Deliverance crushing riffage and intensity that REALLY rocks my boat! So ye, I'll take it in a heartbeat... but will listen to Damnation tomorrow and look for new tastes there.

Very difficult one as well, but i'm going to give it to Damnation because it was one of the albums that really got me into the band for one, but I also think its a very bold, successful and unique album. Deliverance is great too though, especially Wreath.

Damnation. One of the few Opeth albums that I actually like.

Damnation!
But happy 18th birthday to Deliverance! The title track on that album is Opeth's "hit".

I've listened to both at least 4 times during past week and it didn't change my mind. Damnation would crush Newpeth albums IF that was a poll; each song has its memorable moments and the atmosphere isn't far from Anekdoten or Landberk - that quiet, cold, a bit distant dwelling on the past, with horrors lurking in shadows somewhere. Really good album to work to, relaxing stuff, although definitely needs a proper mood to sink in. Having said that, Deliverance kicks off with two heavy as F songs with extremely entertaining riffage, some neckbreaking passages and overall awesomeness everywhere. That's 25 minutes worth of god damn Grade A metal, possibly peaking with title track's face ripping outro... that alone makes my day. By the Pain I See in Others easily tips the scales.
