Cynic, because "Traced" is just so damn good. I like atheist though, especially the bass work of Tony Choy. Hope the new album can give "Traced" a run for its money.

A little late to the party here, but better late than never. I prefer Cynic in terms of personal taste, but Atheist was more influential and also has a larger body of work. Atheist released Piece of Time, Unquestionable Presence, and Elements before Cynic released Focus. I would bet that without Atheist, Cynic would sound a lot different today.

Atheist are awesome. I used to try and tolerate Cynic's vocoder vocals, but now I've given up and declare them an insult to my eardrums.

Atheist, Traced is limp-dicked music for psuedo intellectuals, Unquestionable Presence is one of the best metal albums recored period.

Cynic because of Focus. It is cool though how innovative they are now Traced is so different from Focus. Focus is a true gem.
