Ringo covered alot more different styles and grooves than Nick ever did. George Martin has often talked about how solid Ringo was in the studio.

I don't really have a preferance, so I'll not vote.
I agree with Dean, I've not heard any Floyd or Beatles where I thought a better drummer was required. The songs were not ruined by the drumming. That may be the test. Additionally the music of Pink Floyd and The Beatles didn't require a Carl Palmer or Bill Bruford. By and large they just needed solid time keeping, and some subtlety. Both delivered the goods.
It's not so much that Ringo & Mason were bad drummers, it's just that the prog music movement is stuffed to the gills with virtuoso musicians, so comparisons are pretty unfair.

If it matters, I too totally agree with Dean.

Floyd, no, because they didn't really have a whole lot going on rhythmically anyway. But Beatles songs would sound a little better if played by a better drummer with updated techniques. Ringo was good but had his limitations. Their songwriting is so good that the absence of a little flair where there is scope for it doesn't really hurt but, for instance, somewhat more stylish work at the drums would not hurt on a song like Got to Get You Into My Life.
