I've been listening to Ciclos by Los canarios for the past week and I've begun wondering how many more albums there are out there modeled entirely after classical masterpieces. Are there any other prog bands whose trademark is mimicking the classics, or is Los canarios the only one?

great album that many fools missed!

give us your impressions of Ciclos first, nothing
deep. Just do you think it is great, Ok , or trash?
I hate the plastic christmas thing and it spoils a great
track, but the rest rocks to the max!

I think the concept was great and the performance was okay. I mean, I would've loved for the violins in Vivaldi's Le quattro stagioni to remain violins instead of keyboards, and more guitar numbers of famous Vivaldi movements like the ones in El eslabon recobrado would've been unreal.

Great album, but I'm hoping that there are even better bands out there with thoughts similar to those of Los canarios.

Got the CD based on PA reviews and I am NOT disappointed. 
Thanks once again Progarchives reviewers ! ! !

It's been many years since I've heard the original Vivaldi work upon which this is based.  But I really don't care how much Los Canarios "strayed" from the original music.
This is a fantastic work. Each song is quite long, shortest being 16:47. 

There are SOOOO MANY different musical styles & forms found on this album...
blues,
rock,
pure classical,
Spanish folk,
Gregorian chants,
Beach Boys style vocal harmonization,
operatic,
full choirs & more.

This is Definitive Progressive.

Ciclos is a wonderful album, really worth listening and mentioning, i am sure other people will agree with me.

Mediterranean Tales by Triumvirat is another album similar and maybe you'll like Concerto Grosso I by New Trolls too Wink

count me in... a fabulous album... and an essential album for those wanting to spread out of the same old sh*t of the big 5 ...7 or whatever it is.

Until last year Los Canarios was in Foilk and with the permission of Sean was moced to Symphonic where it belongs.
 
I had the chance to get Ciclos and uit was an outstanding experience, found it a bit cheesy by moments but enjoyed it very much, sometimes a bit of Gouda is OK.
