Well, then it's official...The Gathering IS DEAD. She was the element that saved the music from being completely weak...Specially in the last album (HOME).

From her MySpace blog she says that she has formed a new band, Agua de Annique, whose album Air, will be release in the Autumn.

Indeed...she basically was the music. The music, to me, has always been just a backdrop for her stellar vocals. I suppose on the pre-Souvenirs albums there was a little more going on musically, but they have never really been a stand-out group of musicians. I like or love all of the releases they've put out for the past decade or so, and it's basically all credited to her work. We'll see what happens, though.

I think that it totally makes sense for her to try something new ... Home was a decent album, but didn't really leave a lasting impression on me.

I never really bothered with The Gathering until a friend of mine handed me a copy of "Home" and I really liked it! (Even though Anneke's accent ruined the songs in places.. but that's because I'm spoiled at school and I got used to it in the long run and liked the album!)...
I bought Mandylion (2cd) today for 7,99 ![]() |

^ maybe you're one of the "prog snobs" after all!
![]() P.S.: I know what you mean - but it depends on the album really. IMO How to Measure a Planet clearly qualifies as Post Metal (and it's as different to most other Post Metal albums as the Sigur Rós albums are different to most other Post Rock albums). |

I haven't heard that one but even NIGHTTIME BIRDS has post-metal elements, as I said in my review. But then, the other album I have, HOME, is not post-anything at all, maybe post-trauma, as it's SO quiet that you really think they had earache or something.. it isn't too proggy (actually, prog is not the first word that comes to mind to describe it) but, again, Anekke saves what could've been an utterly boring album.

^ actually it wasn't an earache but the guitarist's father died during the recording sessions. Add to that the fact that they recorded the album in a church ...

This news saddened me a bit, I like their stuff (well, most of it) and they were a truly great live act. I'm looking forward to hear Anneke's new band.

Maybe I've just heard the wrong stuff... what I heard was generic metal with keyboards and a female singer. Could've easily been the wrong stuff, judging by many of the comments in this thread, I suppose. ![]() |

This week I received Anneke's "new debut". It's half-presented as a solo effort, although Agua De Annique is presented as a band (there's only one person photographed throughout the booklet).
The music still needs to grow a bit on me. With "Home" I was not that impressed at first listen either, but to me it has grown into 2006's record of the year (and by quite a distance).
Seems we have a candidate for "new artist addition" anyway.

I should listen to it a few times more to really judge... but as it seems quite in line with TG's work from Nighttime Birds until Souvenirs (but also focusing a bit more towards pop-rock), Crossover Prog doesn't seem too far off. It's not really metal I think...
But I'll come back to that!

I am still mourning about the departure from the Gathering...
![]() her new project actually sounds very close to Gathering's latest albums which IMO where almost 'Anneke's' albums... |

I´ve listened to it two times, the first time it was ok, the songs sounded too alike though, on the second listen I liked it more, it´s mellow and reflective. Doesn´t sound like a masterpice but it´s nice, it´s better than "Home" also. Maybe it will grow on me more?

Nobody needs to go anywhere else. We are all, if we only knew it, already there.
