Stupid question, but has My Dying Bride ever been evaluated for PA ? I think their releases is prog, although I am not sure what kind of prog. This band needs no more introduction. It is like introducing Moses to God in my view. But my views is not always right so feel free to disagree. More at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/My_Dying_Bride |

My Dying Bride was not only evaluated, but added and shortly afterwards removed from the database.

Itīs a doubtful honour that they share with Katatonia. Personally I find both acts progressive and had I been a part of the Progressive Metal Team in the days when they were evaluated I would most definitely have voted yes. Both acts would IMO fit PA perfectly. I can see from the votes on the PM chart on ProgFreak that most of my PMT collegues donīt feel the same though, so itīs probably a lost cause ( http://progfreak.com/home/progarchives?path=pm/rejected&block=6 , http://progfreak.com/home/progarchives?path=pm/discuss ( well there are actually more yes votes for My Dying Bride that I had anticipated)). I would be very interested to hear if anyone can remember why those acts were deleted again after being added. Something that to my knowledge has not happened to any artists before or since on PA? Had the persons who decided to delete them listened to the full discographies? Had they been listening to the wrong albums before taking this decision?

Based on their two first EPs and three first albums; My Dying Bride should be included. Maybe not in Prog Metal. Perhaps more in Prog Related. The first two EPs is more symphonic prog than ELP ever was. I am not joking ! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_LTtU_a0kz4 Edited by toroddfuglesteg - November 05 2009 at 14:03 |

Iīd say Turn Loose the Swans, The Angel and the Dark River and especially the often scolded but in my world wonderful 34.788%... Complete would more than qualify them.

I voted Yes on My Dying Bride, I think they'd fit fine in Tech/Extreme. The only problem is that the majority of the team do not agree with Jonas and I.

![]() But to be fair, if the rest of their catalogue is more or less on the same "level of progressivenes" as that song, I say they deserve a place on Prog Archives,IMHO. |

I like them a lot but not sure if the y would fit here. Surely they started off in a similar vein with Anathema but they remained closer to their doom roots - not conventional doom but not sure if this is prog enough

I don't understand why they were deleted... they're doom but could fit in prog-metal... A definite yes from me for a re-evaluation.

God was the cranky one that gets an attitude change in Testament 2: Electric Boogaloo, right? |

On a related note, the Finnish death/doom/whatever band Swallow the Sun, heavily influenced by MDB, have their new record out and as soon as I get my hands and ears on it, I'll possibly suggest their addition. There's been a lot of prog talk in recent interviews, and they even got Steve Rothery to play on one of their new songs. Too bad the tapes had already been sent to the pressing plant when they got his guitar track, but they're releasing the Rothery version of the song as a digital single at some point.
I'll get back to this in a better thread.
