Three ex-members of Magenta (Allan Mason-Jones, Dan Fry and Martin Rosser, the latter two sharing vocal duties) formed C-Sides in 2007, and here’s their debut. There are the merest fragments of their former band through touches of song structure and melody, for example the mix of Rush meets Magenta meets Rocket Scientists in opener ‘The Ribbon’, but they’ve actually created something specific and quite unique to enjoy. Primarily guitar-based with a resounding snare, there’s an enticing raw freshness, appealing textural approach and alluring rhythms giving them a creativity and individuality that for me places them on a level with Pineapple Thief, Mew, Engineers and Jolly. ‘Devitrification’ – “To cause (a glassy material) to become crystalline and brittle”.
The C-Sides were formed in 2007 by Magenta band members Martin Rosser, Allan Mason-Jones and Dan Fry. Taking a modern rock element and weaving it with the classic early 1970's Rush sound, they made the C-Sides. Featuring the layered guitars of Martin Rosser, the punchy drums of Allan Mason-Jones and the dynamic vocals of Dan Fry, the C-Sides came together to make a classic rock album, that also captures elements of the modern heavy bands of the moment. - Martin Rosser / Guitars, Keyboards and Backing Vocals - Dan Fry / Lead Vocals and Bass Guitar - Alan Mason-Jones / Drums, Percussion 1. The Ribbon (5:57) 2. Times For Me (5:17) 3. Master Plan (4:44) 4. Stand Up (6:48) 5. Devitrification Pt.1 (4:53) 6. Devitrification Pt.2 (2:11) 7. Devitrification Pt.3 (4:58) 8. Let It Go (4:26) 9. I could be wrong but I think crossover prog would be the most appropriate for this band. Anyway, I'm kind of surprised they aren't on here already considering this band is made up of ex members of Magenta. I guess some bands fly under the radar even on here from time to time.

It was on my annual list of unanswered topics to round up much earlier this year...Until the CAPTCHA nonsense killed the site for me. The evaluation can be followed here: http://progfreak.com/C-Sides-169531.html?path=pa/recent. Thanx Keishiro!

I guess sometimes bands get put under the pile for whatever reason. Maybe they will go through this time.
