3 stars The album title pretty much gives this away, as apart from two acoustic numbers what we have here is a live rendition of their 2016 album 'World of Grey'. Formed in 1998, the Dutch band released their debut in 2005 and so far, have put out four studio albums. There is no doubt that the crowd there on the night enjoyed what they were hearing, but for me I'm not so sure. There is a melancholy within their sound, and far more space than is normal. It feels fragile, as if it is going to break at any minute, and there were times when I felt reminded of Marillion, but not in a good way. This is a band which seems to be built around the singer as opposed to being about the music, and consequently it relies on him having a real presence and authority on what is being undertaken yet it just isn't there.

There are times when it can be haunting and almost beautiful, but these sections are few and far between and the result is something which is interesting but just really isn't for me. I note this will be the first review for this album to appear on PA, yet the album has been out for months, so maybe that in itself says something. I haven't heard any of the studio albums so can't say if this is indicative of their normal sound, but I can't see myself seeking them out. It feels self-indulgent as if they were playing for themselves instead of an audience, but maybe you need to be in a certain frame of mind to appreciate this and I am obviously not.

3 stars THE AURORA PROJECT is a group of 5 Dutch musicians formed in 1998 playing music called "progressive rock", the tote drawer when not know what specific category is a group class. Known in 2005 with "Unspoken Words" it was in the 'neo prog heavy, "others say in the progressive metal at atmospheric trend. Among the influences could be cited PINK FLOYD, ELOY, ARENA Subsignal, ANATHEMA, SYLVAN even some TOOL. He has bounced back after the death of one of its guitarists in 2014 to break "World of Gray '2016 album This album is the fifth group, the first" live "and just takes almost exclusively their CD 'before.

The previous column can be easily found, I suggest you immerse yourself in the concept "live" with an intro taking "Circles in the Water" both spleen and planing, to gently up our ears at the right temperature, just before going on the 2 titles chained blinking on stage debauchery ARENA and MARILLION time "Brave" without problem. It's more powerful, more and more leading symphony at once. Then came two tracks on the album 2013 "Selling the Aggression" available only on the first 300 copies of "live" which, I recall, was recorded in 2017. The following 2 titles are interpreted acoustic atmosphere for floydienne to "Wish You Were Here," to make a sound break. Indeed, THE AURORA PROJECT sound is in my opinion heavier live than on CD. The live continued with "Stone Eagle" nervous ballad with a voice more in the foreground and a prog declined late in the piece more demonstrative. "Deadly" still climb the atmosphere with heavy riffs and a more nervous solo. 3 The following titles are the exact replica of the end of the CD with beautiful intro every time an air pop style redundant for the 1st, a symphonic atmosphere and more present voice for the second and final 100% prog for 3rd with siren, symphonic ambience, the solo GILMOUR. "Newtopia" of "Selling the Aggression" to an end almost "stoner" hovering then a deluge measured typically symphonic prog metal, a title that puts chills between the weighted early and well nervous and rhythmic final. A "live" concept, I said, that allows to realize the power of sound of this group, adrenergic mounted and progressive arrangements. A "live" which delivers a changing atmosphere, from the neo metal, with riffs and concise air, with a changing musical signature to hold our interest without problems during the 92 minutes show.
