A Lighthouse Keeper
5 stars And so Rush returns with yet there 19th (20th if counting the cover's album Feedback). 5 years after the release of the much celebrated "Snakes & Arrows", one might expect a familiar sound. But heavens no. On this new expedition, Rush look back at there past and once embrace there Progressive past and the theory of the concept album. Of course, the concept is a loosely connected concoction but it still remains a concept album in shape and form. This is not 70's Rush in the 21st century though. Nor is it there synth-laden 80's form or anything along those lines for that matter. The sound of this LP is something new, and yet something re-visited. It depicts a Rush happy with themselves and ready to work again. And all I can really say is what an album! From the heavy driving riffs of "Caravan" (one of the more conceptual tracks) and "BU2B" (A reflection on faith and what happens when faith is shattered) to the solemn, reflective meditations of "The Wreckers" (one of the more accessible and poppier songs, but no less a feat of songwriting) and "The Garden" (Quite possibly Rush's greatest songs in general) the album takes you on a journey through the steam-powered industrial landscape that fills the universe of the "Clockwork Angels". A fantastic voyage through a steam-punk world filled with wonder, joy and mystery. This is Rush playing like they should, writing like they should. And so we are treated to the finest album since "Moving Pictures". Thank you Rush, Clockwork Angels is a masterpiece of songwriting and musicianship, the finest Progressive album of the year so far...
