4 stars Apart from the two "weaker" attempts at commercial success on this album (Saved By you & Time for a Change), this album is absolutely FANTASTIC Pendragon at their experimental, yet polished best. The "Jewel" album is an excellent precursor for the type of musical genius these guys achieved on "Kowtow". I loved this album's bluesy and richly textured approach. The inclusion of the saxophone on Kowtow helped make this album stand out from later efforts, which sometimes became a tad too overblown and long. Kowtow, on the otherhand, has the right balance, the right attitude, and the best sound I've heard from Pendragon in a long, long time. Yeah, Pink Floyd are no more, and Marillion became strange after Fish departed, but we still have Pendragon coming out with the quality prog rock goods. Kowtow is an overlooked GEM. If only, just to hear the brilliant "Haunting," PLEASE add this Pendragon release to your collection. You won't be disappointed.
