4 stars "Epilog" is an essential purchase if you are a fan of the prog/folk genre. This is definitely a more intense experience in places compared to the previous album, which is probably due to this album being purely instrumental.

You get a real sense listening to this album that the band really wanted to push themselves to create a really rich sound-scape, with sombre tones harking back to something archaic in their Scandinavian roots. You can still hear the influence of King Crimson in places, but Änglagård are a one off, who have created their own unique sound. Awash with organ, flute and mellotron to compliment the electric guitar and bass, that are at the very forefront of the mix. This really is a very catchy album with the last song on the album " Sista somrar" being a particular highlight.

I should also mention that the album artwork by Rut Hillarp match's the atmosphere of the music perfectly, with it's dark overtones. This album should be considered a classic, but with the admission of vocals this might not be to everyone's taste. With so many hooks and tempo changes there's never a chance for the listeners attention to wane. With superb musicianship, Johan Högberg's bass being a particular highlight, this is sure to keep a grin on every muso's face. If you can get this album for a reasonable price, this is a must buy. A strong 4.5*
