VOLUNTEERS

Jefferson Airplane are one of the most important bands in the hippy musical movement, with their political lyrics, particularly in this album, which was supposed to be called Volunteers Of Amerika but was censored, the album is however not very regular and the songs are longer than usual in this kind of music and eventually become a little tiring.

We Can Be Together opens in a somewhat hymnal tone with both vocalists (of different genres) singing a little bit the same thing over and over and it's too long, but the next one, Good Shepherd, is really good, quiet and relaxing, really pleasant, one of the best songs on the album. Hey Fredrick is an almost 9 minute track with extensive guitar solos, that though being pretty good, they become a little too much, it's a good song, but too long. The shorter songs on the album, Turn My Life Down, The Farm and Volunteers, don't do nothing for me, they are pretty average songs, don't appeal to any feeling at all, and longer ones Wooden Ships and Eskimo Blue Day though they are better, aren't really nothing special either. A Song For All Seasons, which appears by the end of the album, is one the greatest songs here, a very cool song, with a beautiful piano, and good melodies, a little Beatles in this.

This is a bit disappointing, the songs are too long and they all a bit the same, this makes the album tiring, however I give credit to the guitar player, who I never see in the best guitar players lists, pulling some really good solos.

I would normally give this 3 stars, since I don't think this is really prog, 2 stars
