4 stars Battalions of fear has nothing to do with progressive rock at all, but is one of my favourites not only from the band, but as a metal album too. Blind guardian's fisrt album ,is a typical power/speed metal album of the german scene, full of energy and powerful but melodic riffs. The music has resemblance with bands like iron maiden and helloween with a more "teutonic" tone. The songs that i like most, are the opener "majesty" and the instrumentals "by the gates of moria" and "gandalf's rebirth. The band had a more prog/folk music direction with the following albums (like "somewhere far beyond") ,but metal funs will real enjoy this one.
