AWAKE

The first record that i heard from Dream Theatre was 'Train of Thought'. Although i had heard of them before, i pictured them as one of those guitar hero bands, with never ending, a hundred notes per second solos. I was obviously very wrong, and i was totally blown away by the great songwriting, diversity and musicianship present on their music. Personally, i think that 'Awake' is mostly uninspired. Sure there are great songs: 6.00, Voices, The Mirror, Silent man. But the bulk of the album is ponderous. The musicianship is fantastic of course, but the songwriting is not as good as on other albums.
