Because the Canadian Day was the day before yesterday, I made this poll. If your favorite is not in the poll, vote for "others" and post the name of your artist in the replies.

I gave my vote to Druckfarben this time. Their latest album geva them a higher ranking on my list. Others: Rush, Hamadryad, Harmonium, Klaatu and Saga.

I'm sure one band will Rush away with all the votes. For me, it was between Harmonium and Maneige. Given that I play Les Porches more than Harmonium, I voted for Maneige.

I was tempted to put "other" and nominate folk-rock outfit Great Big Sea, but since they aren't prog, I'll be predictable and vote Rush.

I wanted to vote for the excellent Machines Dream (from Sault Saint Marie) but it says "cannot vote in this poll"?

You need 50 posts before you can vote, it's to avoid the annoying trolls who use multiple accounts to spam these polls.
Voted for Unexpect.

Plenty of great bands on the list, but it would be kind of silly if my vote didn't go to the band listed first.

I have a soft spot for Klaatu but voted for GY!BE 'cause their first record was like nothing before it, then they backed it up with another just as brilliant. Kind of surprised you didn't include A Silver Mt Zion, Do Make Say Think or Chilliwack though.

Thanks for the answer. Guess making another 48 posts just saying MACHINES DREAM and then voting would be frowned upon
I think their debut was awesome - listen for free at http://machinesdream.aurovine.com/ -
Eagerly awaiting the follow-up Immunity.
Any of you guys know them?

Agreed this band is excellent, and relatively little-known at the moment. Not yet on the site, but recently cleared in Crossover: http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=98493" rel="nofollow - http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=98493 . New album is now mixed and should be released fairly soon, along with a re-issue of the s/t debut.

Justin Bieber. No wait. Cross that out. Celine Dion. Errr, Bryan Adams?
Rush easily. Although, Saga, GYBE and Druckfarben are all favorites as well.

Didn't know James LaBrie had a solo project. Voted for Rush.
Also, my top 7 Canadian bands (no specific order).
Rush Max Webster Voivod Gorguts Devin Townsend's various endeavours Beyond Creation FM

I was hoping Rush would have been excluded since it is obvious they would run away with it - and they have. I voted Other: FM.

My favourite Canadian bands tend to be Quebecois. And a particular favourite (thanks to a PA user for alerting me to the group some years ago) band is Dionne-Brégent. For an artist, my choice is Mort Garson (he would be my first overall choice). Conventum is another I like.
On the list, I particularly love Maneige, Sloche, and Miriodor.

Love Rush and Harmonium, but I would also note FM (who are on this site) and Figgy Duff (who are not). I've been listening fairly obsessively recently to FM's Black Noise since the death of Nash the Slash. It's really a remarkable record.

Oh, I wouln't really know who to choose. Actually, I know very little of Canadian prog. The one I have the most is from Rush (thanks to PA), whom of course are great. But I actually knew Harmonium before, and I still like "Histoires sans paroles" better than any song from Rush themselves. Also, I just got my first album from Devin Townsed, "Terria", and I'm really loving it. Once again, I like it better than any full album by Rush.
