I'm new here, and saw there wasn't enough posts about Larry Fast of Synergy fame, and keyboards on Peter Gabriel records/tours fame. Anyone else out here think he is an unknown gem in the prog world?

I've got Electronic Realizations for Rock Orchestra lying around somewhere (probably in an unopened box after a move and yes, it is a w.an.k.y. title ) but remember it as being pretty good. Mostly played on synths I think?-------------

yes, that is quite a title. His solo stuff is more on the mood/soundtrack vibe, but those synth sounds....man, that was the time. What he brought to the PG records though is so important, especially on 3. He's as important to those early records as Tony Levin. |

Yup. That's about it... Oh, he made some modules for Rick Wakeman and had a minor technical role during the TFTO sessions. If anyone knows what that entailed I guess that could be an interesting discussion... ------------- What? |

I think Rick Wakeman first used a customised synth module designed by Larry Fast on the live Yessongs album but don't ask me on what songs/sounds etc. Mr Fast was interviewed in 2004 about his involvement with TFTO but only offered this by way of a rather vague response: Rick suggested I come to the studio when the band was recording Tales From Topographic Oceans to see how the device was working and offer some tips and techniques, as well as do a little upgrading. It was a very good opportunity. I was able to spend a lot of time in the control room watching Eddie Offord work. I learned a lot about the techniques that were important to the way British albums of the time were engineered. It was quite different from the way American recording was done in the studios in the New York area. I brought a lot of those techniques back with me and they have stayed with me. So, whether I was working with Peter Gabriel, Nektar, Kate Bush or acts in America that had British roots like Foreigner or Bonnie Tyler, I always had a cross-Atlantic thing to offer. Despite our best efforts we just can't seem to make Larry more interesting than he is  -------------

I love Electronic Realisations very much, also his contribution to Nektar's Recycled album. Oh, and also Synergy's Chords album.

Right on Doug, I've read some reviews here trashing Recycled, but it one of my Nektar faves.  My favorite Synergy is Games.
