Any other fans of this book series anthologizing concert posters from the mid-1980s and onwards? I discovered it through the big A3 book, and it's been my gateway to many of my favourite artists working right now who in turn have inspired my own paintings and drawings. The little text even places the DIY poster explosion in a proper context, being written mostly from Wayne Coyne of Flaming Lips flame... it appears that in some places the shift to CD format has made concert poster artwork even more important.

The smaller ones in A5 format, that are more specialized in their subject matter, are also worth a look. I actually can't remember how many posters are for musicians archived by this website, but I remember at least some and a good deal are of the more offbeat or obscure variety.

Hi,
There is some outstanding art in all music, specially in the album covers of yester-year!

Start with the "Album Cover Book" that has a history of covers, including jazz and classical albums, and many of the folks that did these ended up becoming very well known artists!

Nowadays, too many bands are not connected to "art" anymore, and the ear of "advertising" kinda forces them to become more recognizeable with a picture.

Simon is referring specifically to the Art of Modern Rock series of books by Dennis King, not books on cover art in general:

No worries, I'm interested in other books about concert poster art too in general so I don't mind recommendations.

I saw somewhere, but can not remember where, a website that had a complete list of all the Fillmore posters and the artists who did them. I think there is also a massive book on the guy that did a lot of early Frank Zappa album covers as well.

I have to find them!

I was actually thinking of springing some money for some of those posters, as some of the bills are insane for your imagination and mine!
