Now that we have Queen in the prog archives, I think that Deep Purple is deserving enough to be on the Prog Archives.

What would be the one entirely progressive Deep Purple album? I can't think of any.

This logic has a fatal flaw. If we add B to the archives, which is slightly less prog than A, we then must add C, which is slightly less prog than B, ..., and before you can say "wait a minute", Z is in the archives.

IT DOESN'T WORK THAT WAY.

Their first two album are prog, but please DO NOT BREAK THE RULES ANOTHER TIME.

As someone already said, why should we damage PROG ARCHIVES more and more?

Altough.. uhm..wait a minute.. Deep Purple are so good!

Deep Purple made a lot more prog rock music than Queen,so I agree.Add them.Their might as well be consistency (although I'd rather Queen were deleted from the archive)

I would agree that Deep Purple have made more prog music than Queen (well, they made an album with an orchestra for a start). Also Purple are on The Best Prog Rock Album In The World Ever and Queen aren't, so there.

Personally, I think they both have some prog elements but neither are truly prog. This is a very difficult question. Perhaps they both fit best in the "some prog influences" section.

All the bands you like are not necessary prog just because they play in an "intelligent" way.

so, no thanks!!

Listen to Highway Star and Child in Time and tell me that they are less proggy than Queen.  Richie Blackmore along with Jimmy Page metallized guitar playing and if that's not deserving of a little bit of prog respect, than I don't see how Queen is given any respect at all.  Just because one suggests Deep Purple be added to the site doesn't automatically mean that he is being opportunistic and is only suggesting it because he sees progarchives weakened by accepting Queen and sees it as a time to take advantage of that.  It's just that realizing a band like queen CAN get accepted to progarchives makes us Deep Purp fans realize that the Purp does deserve being included in the archives because they are more prog than Queen.  I don't believe we can approach the acceptance of prog bands by only considering whether an entire album is prog.  I believe a more reasonable approach is whether their output or influence progressed rock in any way and if they created a new sound at that time.  Whether they had a few proggy tracks on each album or whether they had one album that was entirely prog is of no consequence.  What matters is the band's outlook on music and how they progressed rock by their entire output of work.

In Rock is a very progressive album, and Deep Purple did produce some proggy tracks. I don't have a problem with them being included - although "Book..." is more psychedelic than prog rock. "In Rock" is probably DP's most progressive album, IMO.

However, to say that they were more proggy than Queen is nonsense. Queen II is a pure prog masterpiece.

Queen are not a prog band. This is really crazy.Queen II,wholly Prog?? Come of it,that is borderline deceit!

I think Deep Purple did more prog than Queen.  I also think they don't belong here as a prog artist.  They did some very interesting things.  Jon Lord was a decent keyboardist and the interplay between Ritchie Blackmore and him was pretty adventurous.  Ian Paice is a completely underrated and ignored rock drummer but they still don't belong here.  I find it very strange that Queen and Uriah Heep are considered prog by the admins here. I never thought of Queen as anything but as a hard rock band with some theatrical elements. My friends and I from the 1970's thought Uriah Heep was a poor mans Deep Purple.

I doesn't matter to me other than the fact there are other bands who are working now, recording now can't seem to get added, get their music reviewed and exposed to people who might like it because some dinosaur band who will never do anything again hogs all the attention
