Is it bad etiquette to start many topics?

Simultaneously? I would say so. Or even within a short period of time. But over a longer period I don't see a problem

Flooding is unsportsman-like regardless of whether that's threads, posts, polls or reviews so I would consider that to be bad netiquette.

Understood you're immersed in this website now, but sometimes days-off for your trip, coffee, sports or something are needed methinks.

Maybe the subjects of the threads can also enter in sight. For example, launching non-music and controversial threads (politics, economics, morals, etc...) doesn't sound like a good idea.

If there is controversy surrounding a topic that usually means it must matter in the scheme of things...

Controversy is alright, if people can be civil about it - and acknowledge the fact that we all can be right all the time, and that there are people here who don't exactly speak perfect English, come from The US or Europe - and that that sometimes will colour their perspectives in our discussions. Etiquette being that we accept the other dude behind the screen, up to a certain point of course, but that is bottom-line the delio.

I dunno if that's such a good idea....perhaps we should make a poll about it.

There are those who have been banned permanently for flagrant misuse of the ability to start new threads. As you would expect this is extremely rare and would necessitate the pollster initiating an extremely large number of frivolous and/or inappropriate threads over a considerable period of time despite receiving warnings to desist etc

If you are willing to be active in the batch of topics you start that's likely OK.

Be sure to treat Belgians the same way you do Samoans.

I like to start 30-40 topics and polls a day, usually about safe topics like porn, drugs and illegal downloading.

I have just joined the site, but cannot start any topics. What am I doing wrong? I couldn't find any information to help in faq etc and don't even have permission to make a new topic to ask a question. Pls Help! I am probably violating forum etiquette by asking off the topic but have no choice.

Sorry, but it's an anti-spam measure to ensure you are a real prog fan and not a spammer. You can only open threads in Welcome Newbies and Welcome Artists. HOWEVER, once you have made 5 posts in existing threads you can open new ones yourself.
------------- What?
