KETTLESPIDER PROGFEST REPORT!

Hello prog lovers!

As i sit and listen to 'A Passion Play' on a rainy Melbourne day, I thought i'd use the blog here to tell you a little bit about a gig that Kettlespider did last week here in Melbourne! I think i might make a habit of this too.. It's good to keep everybody in the loop!

The 'Espy Hotel' is an iconic Melbourne music venue that is home to many metal/rock gigs and awesomely enough, PROG gigs too - particularly in it's 'Gershwin Room', a long, hall-like room with great sound and a very unique appearance and feel.

Last Saturday, Kettlespider had the chance to perform in the Gershwin Room alongside 22 other BRILLIANT Australian prog bands at Australia's biggest progressive music festival, PROGFEST. The band played a selection of songs from debut album 'Avadante', including seldom played 'Comatose' - which was a personal highlight. Two brand new songs from the second album, Samsara were also trialled - and were greeted with a warm reception.

From up on stage it was very special to see a PACKED room full of enthusiastic and attentive prog fans, and it certainly gave the band a big adrenaline rush, really bringing the best out of our performances!

The event was a huge success and certainly showed us that the prog scene is well and truly alive, with an attendance of well over 1000 people cramming into the Hotel's two main rooms!

Stay tuned to the Kettlespider youtube -
http://www.youtube.com/Kettlespider" rel="nofollow - www.youtube.com/Kettlespider

As there will be VIDEO FOOTAGE from the gig posted there soon!

Long Live Prog!

I just looked on wikipedia - expecting it to be some new species of australian arachnid with a venom capable of delivering a killing bit that even prayers to the Lord Jesus won't stop you from dying horribly....Tongue

But no - it's just a name....But the Yes/Rush/Haken/LTE sounds promising - can we buy a CD?

Haha! So sorry to disappoint you after your Wikipedia research - its just a funny band name that came about when we were making some coffees at a rehearsal one day! I'm sure glad we didn't drink that venomous coffee though..

Glad people are enjoying the band name though, and hopefully the tunes!

You can indeed buy a cd! We'd be so grateful. Amazon and cdbaby have it, but we'd take great pride in sending it out ourselves to be honest, it's more personal and we can show you how we appreciate it that way!

Thanks for the question! We get asked this quite a bit haha..

To answer in brief before i elaborate slightly, there will likely be vocals on future albums of ours.

We are open to incorporate whatever is best for each song.. and some songs we have on the pipeline are perhaps calling for a vocal hook of some kind, or maybe a woodwind instrument etc...

In the case of 'AVADANTE', it was natural to capture the album in the way it was written and intended to sound, instrumental.. The challenge of conveying a story/message through music is one that we are excited by.. it just takes that connection between musician and instrument to the next level.. and as we've found talking to people after shows, it can be very powerful for the listener too!

If we happen to cross paths with someone who is the right fit for our band both socially and vocally, things can always change i guess!

Until then, we are writing album number two, 'SAMSARA', and it's turning out to be one of the most rewarding things each of us have ever done. Can't wait to share it with all of you!

Hello everyone,

I'm Colin - The bass player from Kettlespider. It's exciting to see how many of you have supported the band and contributed to this thread!

As Simon mentioned earlier - our gig at Progfest in Melbourne was one of the highlights of the year. So i thought i'd contribute to the thread by sharing with you all a video of us playing the song 'Avadante' - the title track from our debut album at Progfest.

Also, If anyone knows how I can have this video featured on our Progarchives 'Kettlespider' artist page - i'd love to know how!

We have another very special gig coming up this weekend, called 'Creepshow' at The Esplanade Hotel.

Anyone that likes progressive music in Melbourne should pick up a ticket for this event at:

http://kettlespider.bandcamp.com/merch" rel="nofollow - http://kettlespider.bandcamp.com/merch

There'll also be burlesque dancing ;)

As for anyone else interested in our music, as Simon has mentioned - you can download our album 'Avadante' at our bandcamp page for just $5!

An exciting new split release, featuring performances from three of Australia's most promising progressive music acts - Kettlespider, Xenograft and Bear the Mammoth - is now available for purchase, stream and download!

The release was successfully launched in front of a capacity crowd at Melbourne's Evelyn Hotel venue and is finally ready to share with the world.

The three bands' featured on this much anticipated new release have become identified as the driving force of Melbourne's emerging 'Heavy/Instrumental' scene, with Kettlespider's debut album 'Avadante' receiving much praise within the Progarchives community.

The selection of songs present here perfectly demonstrate each band's unique sound and approach - from Xenograft's complex arrangements and jazz/fusion influences to Bear the Mammoth's atmospheric Post Rock tendencies.

The Split release can be streamed and purchased (including remixes of the songs) at the Anon Islet label bandcamp.
http://anonisletrecords1.bandcamp.com" rel="nofollow - http://anonisletrecords1.bandcamp.com

Alternatively, there are a strictly limited number of physical copies available from the official Kettlespider bandcamp.
http://kettlespider.bandcamp.com " rel="nofollow - http://kettlespider.bandcamp.com

All media and review enquiries for this release can be forwarded to me (Simon) in a private message, or onto Karen Heath from Anon Islet records:

We hope you enjoy hearing the songs on this release and exploring a new, emerging scene!

Thanks a lot for sharing the feedback BORA,

Glad you like it the way it is! We are currently writing for our second full length album, it is shaping up to be a very layered, rich sounding album with a diverse range of sounds - maybe even the occasional vocal (think camel snow goose style).

Up the coast! cool :)
Where abouts are you based?

All I like is prog related bands beginning late 60's/early 70's. Their music from 1968 - 83 has the composition and sound which will never be beaten. Perfect blend of jazz, classical, folk and rock.

Kettlespider have released the first of two new "Live in the studio" videos on Youtube.

Drawing influence from a variety of genres, Kettlespider's sound provides a fresh take on 1970’s progressive rock, but with a modern post-metal punch. The band made their mark in 2012 with the release of their independently released debut album, "Avadante", which features in the Progarchives "Top 100 Albums of 2012" chart, and has received critical acclaim in publications such as Classic Rock's "PROG" magazine and HeavyBlogIsHeavy.

The two new tracks, "Tundra" and "Evolution" were recorded live at Melbourne's Black Pearl Studios and will be made available for FREE download on http://kettlespider.bandcamp.com" rel="nofollow - Kettlespider's Bandcamp page in September.

Watch the band's performance of "Tundra" here:

Life in the old Kettlespider thread? Could it be?

Yes! We thought it was time to let you all know that Kettlespider have dusted off the cobwebs and started a new project called "Building A Spider".

The idea is that we are keeping ourselves busy by releasing a new piece of music every month between March and October of 2016 - thus constituting an eight song collection (the spider) that will be ready by year's end.

Excitingly, we are two songs into the project already!

Both tracks, "The Climber" and "Samsara" can be downloaded here:  http://kettlespider.bandcamp.com/" rel="nofollow - https://kettlespider.bandcamp.com/
