Hounds of love is the best female-vocal album that I have.
Kate has done other excellent stuff, but for that reason alone she'd be my number one female artist. Tori, who I quite like, can't compete (IMHO)

Although Kate may objectively be the better artist, I prefer to listen to Tori. It is a matter of taste.

I like Kate's vocal style better but Tori runs rings around on keyboards. Tori came along and pretty much filled the void for me when Kate when on hiatus. I wouldn't be without either of them in my collection. Also you guys should check out Happy Rhodes if you like both but haven't yet.

I love both, and grew up listening to Kate, and as far as a prog artist goes she's got both "The Dreaming" and "Hounds Of Love" right up there. Tori though, has a more expansive catalog, and I do prefer to listen to her these days, so she get's my vote.
If you want more along these lines you should listen to Canada's Sarah Slean too !

Also Sarah McLachlan's first three albums also helped fill in the void for me when Kate went on hiatus.

Maybe someone could be interested by VEDA HILLE, this too discreet canadian artist signed on the Andy Partridge label. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SvmiuxbdCvg" rel="nofollow - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SvmiuxbdCvg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BuTA2GzYVug" rel="nofollow - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BuTA2GzYVug http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ld0lnaL9K6c&feature=related" rel="nofollow - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ld0lnaL9K6c&feature=related

I've only heard about two tunes by Tori Amos, so I can't really vote, but The Hounds Of Love is a great album - really unique voice that I appreciate.

It has to be Kate for me, just watch the videos for Sat in Your Lap and Cloudbusting and tell me you feel nothing. She wrote The Man With The Child In His Eyes aged only 13, allegedly. An extraordinary talent. I do like the way Tori sits at the piano though...

I think Tori actually becomes Kate on her first album....when I first heard Little Earthquakes, I thought it was Kate finally giving us a little insight into that head of hers.
------------- I like to feel the suspense when you're certain you know I am there.....
