I discovered this thread by Rivertree from the end of April 2011 in 'Unsigned Bands' forum: http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=77838" rel="nofollow - http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=77838 , after seeing a video of theirs in another thread relating to a tribute song written by Andy Latimer for ex-Camel keyboard player Peter Bardens, who sadly passed away in 2002.

Flammärion are not yet on the site, nor are they in progfreak, but they do have an album out called 'Ignition', released in May 2011, so it seemed like a reasonable idea to put them up for evaluation.

From the band's facebook pages: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Flamm%C3%A4rion-Portuguese-prog-rock-band-wwwflammarion-bandcom/272009736155997?sk=info" rel="nofollow - http://www.facebook.com/pages/Flamm%C3%A4rion-Portuguese-prog-rock-band-wwwflammarion-bandcom/272009736155997?sk=info

The Band was formed in 2006, but their first on-line appearance occurred only in late 2010, with the release of 3 tracks from the debut album Ignition ("Never Letting Go - Tribute to Camel", "The Arrival" and the instrumental version of "Declaration of Insanity"). The complete album was finally released in May 2011, and included a total of 11 tracks (including one bonus track).

The band is from Marinhais (Portugal) & consists of just two members, Bruno Miguel (guitars, keys, voices, computer programming) & Luís Afonso (guitars, keys, voices, computer programming).

Streaming of their album can be done via:

Or you can download the individual mp3 tracks from the band's official website: http://www.flammarion-band.com/index.html" rel="nofollow - http://www.flammarion-band.com/index.html , where you will also find extensive info about each of the band members via the 'Band' tab.

Influences on the album are wide - they are stated as "Camel, Pink Floyd, Genesis, Peter Gabriel, Roger Waters, Marillion, The Alan Parsons Project, Kamelot, Nightwish, Avantasia", and it is not easy to pick a sub genre for this band. The album is over 75 minutes long, and covers a range of styles - this review in French probably sums it up pretty accurately tbf: http://www.musicwaves.fr/frmChronique.aspx?pro_id=7113&URL_REF=Flammarion_Ignition" rel="nofollow - http://www.musicwaves.fr/frmChronique.aspx?pro_id=7113&URL_REF=Flammarion_Ignition

Just as was the case with one of their main influences, Camel, vocals may not be the strongest point here, but there's some pretty fine music to make up for it. Thumbs Up

They were shot down by Eclectic and sent to Neo, but I don't think the boys ever got word. I'll drop a note.

And sorry for the delay. Embarrassed

Hi guys, we already checked that band in November 2011, and this was our final decision:

Could be Symphonic, but the frequent Space passages, the heavy "Look the other way" and the eclectic "Lost" with King Crimson reminiscences, made me take a decision:

Without rejecting them, will send FLAMMÄRION to Eclectic, if Torodd votes in favor and rejected by ECLECTIC TEAM, we will most surely accept them.

If the band is rejected by Neo Prog.....WE ACCEPTED THEM ALREADY,  but we were waiting for Eclectic's response because we believed that due to the Space Rock, Alan parsons Project and Marillion influence, Eclectic or Crossover would be the best option.

But if rejected by Neo, the band will be added to Symphonic, so won't stay outside PA..
