Topic: Will Linkin Park go prog?Posted By: Gallifrey
Subject: Will Linkin Park go prog?

Now. Before I get a lecture about how LP are a sh*tty mainstream Nu Metal band, anyone who has heard their last effort, A Thousand Suns, will know it was one of the most randomly progressive albums to come out of the mainstream. It was brilliant, honestly, the only bad bit being the two rap songs (When They Come For Me and Wretches and Kings) but other than that it was a fantastic concept album about nuclear war and its effects.
Now, why I'm bringing this up now, is because they've just announced a new single. And although you can't judge an album by its single, I'm hoping like mad they continue with this style. They seem like a band who doesn't really care what fans want though, so they could go anywhere.

There is some more experimental sounds in their last cd who is very good and different from their previous cds, but it's not really prog.

I guess Linkin park will be considered as prog shortly after Blink182 would be added to the archives.

I'm going to saaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay no
Also remember, "a little different" =/= prog. Edit: Also, a concept album =/= prog and nuclear war isn't exactly a mindblowing topic. Kudos for changing it from being emo though.

I've heard songs from that album, it's not prog. Don't be silly.

I am pretty sure that is the opposite of the truth. They didn't release another terrible rap-rock album because nobody likes that kind of music anymore.

I've heard they might be releasing a 17-minute long song with polyrhythms, 23 instruments, 4-voice fugues and crossed harmonies. I also heard the lyrics will deal with the goal of man on earth from a hindu-sino-earthly perspective, with emphasis on the environment and the achievement of full integration between one's soul and God Inti.

The OP is correct in that Linkin Park have made some very unexpected music. Minutes To Midnight is one of the biggest about faces a mainstream band has ever performed.
However, the problem is that Linkin Park are terrible. While I admire their ambition, they lack talent, songwriting skills and sense. Only Chester Bennington's occasionally superb vocals save them from being a complete joke and I have long hoped he would go solo.

Isn't that that band where people die when they play live?
Can't be much different from Prog Metal, they'd fit right in.

Nope. Listened to that album through and through because the 12 year old remembered how much he use to love that band. Older me hates it, Not progressive.

Well here's Linkin Park's brand new single which answers this question pretty definitively.
It's a prog fan's dream in many ways because the video depicts Linkin Park being set on fire.
Musically, with a different vocal, it could pass for a Britney Spears song.

I bought their album Hybrid Theory many years ago, after a holiday in Canada, where I kept hearing some of the songs wherever I went.
Played it one when I got home, but when I came down of the holiday high, I lost interest PDQ. Could they go prog? I've no idea. To be honest I had no idea they were still going.
