German label Music Is Intelligence, also known as WMMS (short for their international distribution company World Music Messenger Service), was one of the daring indie labels that kept progressive rock alive in the 1990's. Formed by Peter Wustmann in the late 1980's, this label is perhaps best known for their symphonic progressive rock releases and a steady stream of productions by fledgling progressive metal acts today. This small label was an important one in the days when this type of music was very much out of fashion and disregarded however, and sadly they have an unwarrented and somewhat undeserved legacy as a low quality label. In particular by those not familiar with the totality of their output.
Following what appears to have been a few shaky years financially (at least their catalogue numbering indicate that) the company folded in 1999, ironically just prior to the growing popularity of progressive rock that came as a direct result of the internet becoming a household item.
