This station is right up there with the very best in terms of its prog content! I find I'm tuning in to it more and more since my previous favourite, prog.fm: http://www.prog.fm/" rel="nofollow - http://www.prog.fm/ has become so unreliable and intermittent of late.

Is the program interrupted by many commercials in the US? In the rest of the world we run fillers to fill up the commercials, except for Spain and France. I am unable to hear this in The Netherlands.

There were no commercials at all on prog.fm. It played back-to-back prog 24/7 up until the last six weeks or so, since when it has hardly played anything at all. As well as the current song playing and the recent history, the website not only told you which song was going to be up next, but also the one following THAT! Morow.com based in France is good too - the only interuptions to the music on there are from well-known prog artists who pop up now and again just to remind you of the station's name!

^ currently listening to the playlist. I quite liked the konchordat track. Asia is currently on air, I am not a fan (I love AOR - FM, Push, Heart, Distance, Signal... - but in the case of Asia, I think they have too much "so-so" songs and not very memorable choruses in their songs) however, that "open your eyes" has some good moments.

About Abel Ganz : it's a shame that Alan Reed doesn't sing on this song. Next on to Steve Thorne, I remember this song, from an album featuring a host of quality guests, among which Tony Levin. In the vein of Martin Orford's pop-prog stuff.

Blind Ego : discovering them, vocalist reminds me of Orphan Project's one, and Stiltskin's (later with Genesis) which is a good thing, music sounds a bit "emo" in the choruses.

DutchProg, I would suggest to alternate between the different prog sub-genres : some folk, some jazz-rock, some tech death, some ambient/electronic, some post-rock, some classic rock, some world-inflected prog, some avant-garde...Not just pop-prog.

Hello Casartelli, thanks for "quoting" me in your announcement ! Diversity is the key to tolerance and it prevents from getting bored Metallica is airing, believe it or not the intro to "sanitarium" always brings tears to my eyes. I think it's one of the best in the story of metal.

Is that a beatbox on the talk Talk's song recorded live ? I didn't know they have some live material available for purchase. So much emotion in these vocals, and that typical ambient-pop mood, close to the reflective songs of The Blue Nile.

You're welcome
Thanks for your other comments. I agree to the intro of Sanitarium. Somehow it's so powerful and emotional in its simplicity. W.r.t. Paatos, I think they've become a bit more poppy and upbeat with their latest album from which this was the opener. To be honest, I prefer their older work, from which I've done some songs in previous shows already (Sensor, Happiness and the most beautiful of all, Téa). And the Talk Talk song was taken from London 1986, which is unfortunately quite hard to get hold of. It's a fantastic live album, not in the last place because the tone is so much different from the already excellent studio versions. Then a new live album (with recordings from the same period) was released recently.
Again, thanks for listening and commenting, it's really nice to read some feedback.

After some electronic jazz-rock tour de force, a lesson of melody with the late Kevin Gilbert.
With Cluster, we wander in the dreamy world of electronic music.
Some funk-rock madness with Praxis.
The crazy world of Zappa ! Could be
perfect for a video game lol
Katana, a very good Iron Maiden
inspired band. Some tracks are in a more power metal vein, but
overall the Maiden influence is very strong.
Dio-era Black Sabbath was never better
than on stage. This track from their fabulous 'live evil' is full of
mystery.
Mike Oldfield's soundtrack to 'the killing fields' is fabulous and the track selected here is perfectly recreating the overall atmosphere of this movie.
A breath of fresh air with Rick Wakeman's small piano piece.
The late Tadeusz Nalepa and his wife Mira in a psychedelic mood with their band Breakout.
Harmonia follows in the steps of Cluster, spacey and dreamy electronic music.
Malombo are a world-fusion band from South Africa, little known outside the boundaries of this country. They are in the same league as Cymande, Osibisa, Mandrill or fellow countrymen of Assagai.
Action Dead Mouse play instrumental math rock, but deserve more recognition.
Michael Sadler, Saga's frontman, performs some very nice AOR-oriented music on his album Clear, which track "one minute" is taken from. The excellent drummer Chris Frazier (Steve Vai's Flex-Able) is featured.
Som Imaginario with their self-tiled album play psychedelic tropicalia.
Some more psychedelia follows with Sweetwater, a female-fronted band. Jeffferson Airplane comes close as a comparison, but the instrumentation is richer with Sweetwater.
Tales from Canterbury with National Health, starting in a pastoral mood (flute and electric piano) then going on in a jazz-fusion mood.
jazz-rock meets breakcore with Gary Willis.
Jef Lee Johnson & associates : frenetic jazz-rock, an ode to the times of psychedelic rock and early fusion.
The program ends on a a lighter note with hungarian folk band Kolinda.

^ To make this playlist easier to digest, I inserted some non-prog bands that rely highly on melody (Fergie Frederiksen (ex-TOTO), Daniel Lanois (who is known from progsters for his work with Eno), Dale Bozzio & Missing Persons (with a line-up including Zappa alumnis), Alyson Avenue (whose vocalist is the current Nightwish singer), Phenomena (feat. ex-Trapeze and ex-Deep Purple vocalist/bassist Glenn Hughes, and the late Cozy Powell on drums).
I also wanted to share my love for a band from my birth country (Poland), Turquoise, with their first album and the amazing Katarzyna Jajko on vocals (she later left the band, but the remaining members hired the impressive Katarzyna Dudek to accompany the male vocals).
The Iron Maiden title I chose is a cover of the fantastic AOR band, FM, and, although in a typically Maiden-style, is as good as the original.

Ok with Frumpy - How the Gypsy was Born, my feet are tapping, my head turning from side to side in rhythmic mode, my arms are crossed and I am air drumming slowly to the fab rhythm.

ok, it should be pronounced "lewka bjela" but nevermind.
In case you didn't notice frumpy is a woman ! Yes, difficult to believe... And there is a passage reminiscent of 'Eleanor Rigby', that reminded me of Wolf's "highway rider (WOlf was a NWOBHM band of the mid-eighties) the first time I heard it (or it should be the other way around as WOlf recorded their song 14 years after the one of frumpy).

Although it's not obvious on the track selected, Sagrado Coraçao da Terra are a symphonic prog band. They are huge in their country, Brazil, the violinist Marcus Viana composed scores for several TV series. Marcus Viana provides (male) vocals for this song.
