This does not mean that Borderline books is back in business. Has anybody news from these guys yet? Dag-Erik Asbjornssen has not been answering mails lately!

for all of you not familiar with those books: Vernon Joynson and Dag-Erik Asbjornssen have been writing books by countries about pro bands from mid 60's until mid-70's. Both authors are almost exhaustive - especially Joynson.

Tapestry Of Delights -Vernon Joynson - British rock-pop in General incl Ireland and almost every single ever published is in. But very interesting for progheads and very exhaustive> Stops dead on at 76, though!!      5

Fuzz Acid and Dreams - Vernon Joynson - Same by same but for US . Stays more selective (no obviously hugein order groups) to keep the book in one volume. As you might guess , less interesting for progheads since most full-blown prog groups came to be after those years concerned by the book. Invaluable for psych fans> Stops dead on 75  - has been reprinted and the addendum of the first edition is now included in the main text.    3,5

Cosmic Dreams At Play - Dag-Erik Asbjornssen - at last news from D-E A, he was rewriting this book. It has an equivalent called Crack In The Cosmic Egg published by Ultima Thule. Both offer almost complete German rock scene. Can go up for selected groups to the 80's. I find Asbjornssen's good tastes almost absolutely indiscutable and the utmost trustworthy, even if the book is a little dated by design side>    5

Scented Gardens For The Mind - Dag-Erik Asbjornssen  - same as above but for all Continental Europe, except Austria and Switzerland (badly covered in the Cosmic Dreams book but may be the reason for the re-writing of that particular book) including old eastern block countries and 60-70's illegal groups and discographies - very impressive . He can list albums up to the 90's for selected groups. A major must for progheads even if O and ZW are omitted and there are a few gaps or groups omitted >   5

Dreams , Fantasies and Nightmares - Vernon Joynson - same as Tapestry or Fuzz Acid but for Canada , Australia , New Zealand and Latin America. Stops dead on 75-6 > Rather less interesting for progheads as the major prog oeuvre for these countries are mostly from years not covered by the book. For psych fans , this is invaluable, though>    3

My very wonderful other half (yes she is in the same troom as me right now) bought me Scented Gardens For The Mind for Xmas a couple of years ago - I'm hoping for reprints of Cosmic Dreams and Tapestry of Delights to go with it. Exhaustive works, and it's fun spotting the occasional errors or omissions.

Thanks for the heads-up, Hughes.

BTW, it is nearly 1000 pages, not 100.

Yes, excellent books.

For your information, "Cosmic Dreams" exists as a web

please let me know if TOD is that much better that it needs the new edition. Knowing that I have the third edition with the addendum in the back.

Does anyone know where to get these books at a half decent price?, I really really want that scented gardens of the mind book and it goes for outrageous prices like 350 pounds or 500 US dollars.
