British based band Diagonal released their debut in 2008 - and certainly made a huge impression on me. One of the finest examples I know of what some call retroprog.
Anybody out there who knows this band - and perhaps has some info regarding their situation. I for one would love to hear a second album.

Here are some tracks from the debut:

^Great! I would have loved to see that. Even so, this still proves that they´re still playing(at least last year that is...)
Did they play any new tunes?

Not all is well though. (From http://reverbworship.com/first.html" rel="nofollow - http://reverbworship.com/first.html )

Baron.A musical project by Alex Crispin who is the ex singer and keyboard player from Brighton's progressive darlings Diagonal.Barons music takes a considerable nod to music from the canterbury scene (think Caravan, National Health, Matching Mole etc).In fact Alex's rather lovely voice has drawn comparisons with Robert Wyatt and Richard Sinclair as well. The album contains nine tracks which feature both past and present Diagonal members ...Luke Foster, Dan Pomlett and David Wileman. You get an album which Alex considers to be a a natural progression from his previous band.

ex singer? oh no Ouch

All I read was new albumEmbarrassed

Sorry to hear that the vocals will be different now that Alex isn´t part of the group anymore...
I´m really looking forward to this one though.

Illegitimate Nephew by Baron is one of the best albums I've heard this year.

This Baron stuff is really good. I might just like it more than Diagonal.

Have they been suggested to any team for evaluation?

Baron doesn't say anything to me.
Big fan of Diagonal, hoping as well that they'll pull a sophomore soon.

Hello all!

I too loved the first Diagonal album, they showed immense potential! I grabbed the vinyl copy when it came out. Haven't really given it much of a listen lately, so I've gone and dug it out too! :)

I don't think the vocals were the strongest part of it, they were a bit flat and occasionally let the music down, but I've certainly heard worse.

Thanks for the info about the Baron project, I've just d/l'd it and will give it a listen shortly :)

Just listened to the Baron album and it's wonderful!! Well done, guys!!

I grumbled a little about the Diagonal vocals in my last post, but they are hugely improved on the Baron release and are really quite charming!

Definately a Canterbury influence, but still many Diagonal moments!! The music has quite a joyful sound too!

Now, how about a vinyl release....?!

I had completely forgotten about this thread, but I guess I can ask the same question Not that I greave the loss of Alex Crispin as he sounds much better on the Baron releases. Last year's Torpor is a brilliant album and heartily recommended to folks with a penchant for eclectic psychedelia.

I think you would find it worthwhile to hear Wolf People's Fain, if you haven't. Superb album and sufficiently similar to have cross-digability, IMO.  There's also personnel overlap.
