Just wondered whether this lot ought to be on here somewhere - they are certainly a unique and eclectic bunch, and that is probably where I would suggest evaluating them. They released four albums in total between 1994 and 2005, when the band split up, followed by the fifth "lost" album, "(_____) is Missing!" last year.

From the Church Of Interconnectedness website: http://www.thechurchofinterconnectedness.com/2011/02/transelement.html" rel="nofollow - http://www.thechurchofinterconnectedness.com/2011/02/transelement.html

"One of this country's finest bands of the last 50 years have pretty much never been heard of. Despite doing 2 Peel Sessions. The biggest tragedy was that they split up whilst/after recording their first full-on studio album and subsequently, this release never saw the light of day.

That is, until last year, when Jay (Stansfield singer/guitarist) finally made tRANSELEMENt's entire body of work available to the public for free. YES FREEE!

Among this astounding body of work is the lost album "(_____) is missing".
Finally released after 6 or 7 years of sitting on the shelf screaming to be unleashed on the world, this is a beast of an album, which darts through pop, prog, math rock and electronic experimentalism with gleeful harmonies and some choice moments including a song about sticking things up your bum.

Jay is also recording a solo album at the moment, which we look forward to hearing later this year".

Here's a small selection of their stuff from YouTube - the legendary John Peel once described this band as "weird" - if that ain't a compliment then I don't know what is!!

Sorry about the video quality of these live samples.

This band is truly one of the great lost gems of the decade. For a brief  biography & discography I would suggest looking here: http://pc-pdx.com/bands/transelement" rel="nofollow - http://pc-pdx.com/bands/transelement , and an old interview with them is here:  http://www.music-dash.co.uk/transelement/" rel="nofollow - http://www.music-dash.co.uk/transelement/

You can download any or all of the tRANSELEMENt albums here.... http://transelement.bandcamp.com" rel="nofollow - http://transelement.bandcamp.com

PS. The brand new album 'LOVISM' by Jay Stansfield will be available to buy from the 17th October 2011 on White Label Music with a UK tour to coincide with its release. Some samples from it are on Soundcloud.com: http://soundcloud.com/jaystansfield" rel="nofollow - http://soundcloud.com/jaystansfield

Interesting find. The studio samples show an alternative band with experimental / progressive tendencies, but it's not enough to give a clear image of the band. I'll have to check out the full albums.

Wow, David... You've knocked me out with this one. Absolutely brilliant band. What a shame they didn't make it big. (_______) Is Missing! is a fantastic album.

It's not going to be easy to add them, these guys crossed over all the genre boundaries and definitions we set up here. Wacko

I'm notifying the avant-prog team now.

Glad you like it Alex.  Smile How this band have remained so little-known and unrecognised over such a long career is totally incomprehensible - maybe it's because John Peel said they were weird! For HIM to have regarded ANY band as being weird is quite remarkable indeed!  LOL

An irrefutable great band, but cruelly underrated; add to PA could to save tRANSELEMENTt from that oblivion.

A terrific project (sorry to hear they'd been disbanded) and simultaneously a tough case upon evaluation.
They may not get themselves out of "independent / alternative rock" with their avantgarde sounds I've felt ... but hmm ...
Please let me take time.
