| They're pretty much universally considered to be post rock. They fit the bill in pretty much every way, and also use elements of math-rock. They should be moved from prog-related to post rock/math rock without question. I really see no reason for them to not be there. |

But Slint, call it "proto" or whatever you wish, is still post-rock, even if they sound like no other post-rock band. Even Sigur Ros sounds completely different from all the other post-rock bands, yet it seems like nobody doubts their labeling. -------------

| Most post rock bands don't sound like other post rock bands. Slint (at least Spiderland) is as post rock as they come. I think moving them over to post/math rock is a no brainer. |

Much in the same way garage rock doesn't have to be recorded in a garage, prog rock doesn't have to be progressive to the evolution of music. Slint was far more progressive then pretty much anything in neo-prog.

| I think you are taking "progressive" in the literal sense, which shouldn't be the case. Progressive rock is a genre, not necessarily rock that pushed boundaries. That's a bonus. |

that's right; in fact Slint was only mentioned in the definition because they are, inexplicably, considered by the rest of the world to be influential on Math and/or Post rock, which they were not really. I was co-author for the Mathrock def and if I'd had my way, the band would not be mentioned at all. |
