They're pretty much universally considered to be post rock. They fit the bill in pretty much every way, and also use elements of math-rock. They should be moved from prog-related to post rock/math rock without question. I really see no reason for them to not be there.

They are a "proto" post rock band, meaning they were a slightly experimental post-punk band. Musically they were not "progressive", and I am even surprised they were added to PA at all.

But Slint, call it "proto" or whatever you wish, is still post-rock, even if they sound like no other post-rock band. Even Sigur Ros sounds completely different from all the other post-rock bands, yet it seems like nobody doubts their labeling.

They'd have to be progressive first in order to be added to a genre on PA. Post rock doesn't necessarily mean progressive.

Most post rock bands don't sound like other post rock bands. Slint (at least Spiderland) is as post rock as they come. I think moving them over to post/math rock is a no brainer.

Do you think that Marillion or IQ are progressive? Probably not. Then why are they included in the site? Because "progressive" is a genre name. Much in the same way garage rock doesn't have to be recorded in a garage, prog rock doesn't have to be progressive to the evolution of music. Slint was far more progressive then pretty much anything in neo-prog.

I think Marillion and IQ are progressive. Any post rock has to be progressive rock first in order to be added on this site in a prog category - and that applies to any genre.

You think that Marillion and IQ are progressive, but not Slint? Marillion is basically a Genesis rehash (I still love them), while Slint helped pioneer an entire genre.

I think you are taking "progressive" in the literal sense, which shouldn't be the case. Progressive rock is a genre, not necessarily rock that pushed boundaries. That's a bonus.

Slint has lengthy songs with time signature changes, I really don't see what your argument is. They're progressive both by definition and genre.

In that case we must be hearing different things. But having them in Prog Related means that others too heard the same thing I did.

From the Post Rock / Math Rock definition:

"Bands from the early 1990s such as Slint, or earlier, such as Talk Talk were influential on this genre."

"Another big influence to the Math Rock approach was Slint with their album "Spiderland" which showcased many techniques that Math Rock bands will follow in the future."

"The disgusting stink of a too-loud electric guitar.... Now, that's my idea of a good time."

^ that shows prefectly why they are in prog related. It's the "proto-prog" of post-rock. LOL

that's right; in fact Slint was only mentioned in the definition because they are, inexplicably, considered by the rest of the world to be influential on Math and/or Post rock, which they were not really.  I was co-author for the Mathrock def and if I'd had my way, the band would not be mentioned at all.
