Not heard Mammoth yet, so for me, the choice so far is: Legacy - Hypnos 69 Oops - just realised...it was a 2010 album! -------------  Open the gates of the city wide....

| I've heard three albums from 2011, and although I love Beardfish and Destined Solitaire was one of my top albums of 2009, I have to admit that it wasn't as good as I hoped. Regardless of that it's still a highly enjoyable album, but I'd say both Phideaux and Make a Rising released better works so far this year. |

I've only heard one new album from this year so far so my choice is easy! AltaAvia - Girt Dog good album (3.5/5) of the neo prog variety although there is nothing there I would call derivative. Just cool well crafted songs. Very enjoyable.

I've got 21 albums from this year so far and Fen's Epoch is easily the best I've heard so far, such a powerful, emotional album its brilliant. Admitedly, Hiromi's Voice, Credo's Against Reason, The Tangnets Going Off on Two and Altar of Plagues Mammal have all only recently turned up and I've got others on the way so that could very easily change. ------------- Spending more than I should on Prog since 2005

Is the Battles album out yet??? I predict it will be up there for me.
Devin Townsend's Deconstruction is likely to be my album of the year. I've sampled most of it on youtube and it seems spectacular. Waiting for the pre-order CDs on June 20th to arrive to be able to accurately assess.
So the 2 DT albums, Battles, Symphony X, ??? Opeth or MA + SW project are all anticipated albums for me. Otherwise see my sig.

This finally tipped me over to buy the Grails album. First one of theirs for me. Listened on the commute in this morning. I'm liking it, definitely worth the money. There were some tracks up on youtube which I checked out. I'm a little burnt on metal right at the moment. I may come back to it. I've been picking up alot more psych / kraut-y stuff lately so the Grails fit the bill. Obscura came up alot on my last.fm mixes about a year ago and I always liked them. They're on the list. So far I've only heard...3 albums from 2011 - Korekyojinn's Tundra, Combat Astronomy's Flak Planet, and Red Army's Kill Your Dreams. | Not too many great albums for me this year so far but there's a few killers. Best is Revolu$ion by Nemo and in hot pursuit Pandora, Uriah Heep and Magic Pie. Beardfish seem to be getting quite a few mentions and their new album is certainly a good'un but not the excellent album I was hoping for. |

Listening to a lot of classical seems to be ruining new prog for me. The last outstanding album I've heard was tracks from the last Stereolab album. Check out "Everybody's Weird Except Me" by them on YouTube. Need to find ACR's thread about this as I listed the few album's I've heard this year, mostly because I can't really remember. Calomito, Korekyojinn, Combat Astronomy, Faust are probably my top four at this point. The new Ahlechaistas album is wonderful, but don't know it well enough yet to rank it. Still need to listen to Fen, Grails, Altar Of Plagues, Grayceon, all of which I have. And of course all the stuff that's out that i've yet to hear that certainly contains some contenders.
I'm sure John Zorn released something this year I enjoyed as well, whatever it is called.
But a pretty fair year thus far. ------------- Dig me...But don't...Bury me I'm running still, I shall until, one day, I hope that I'll arrive Warning: Listening to jazz excessively can cause a laxative effect. |

| So far the year has brought me 2 major deceptions, Wobbler and Aheulchatistas, both horrible albums for which I had such high hopes. Top 3 albums so far this year would have to be Jardin De La Croix, Planeta Imaginario and Virus. Hopefully the rest of the year brings some stronger material as the first 2 albums on that list are only good, 3 stars tops albums, not something that should be album of the year candidate. I've got high hopes for the new gorguts record! |

For me it is by far Testimony 2 by Neal Morse. One of his best albums yet, and even more amazing when I saw it live this weekend. Other albums I've loved this year so far: Phideaux- Snowtorch Beardfish- Mammoth Wobbler- Rites At Dawn And there are many more great albums coming soon! Out of those porky ones I´d say: Grails - Deep Politics Korekyojinn - Tundra Phideaux - Snowtorch Oh and I received a free download of Danish band PAPIR´s new album - filled to the brim of psychedelic Krautrock, jams and the gentle sounds of a coffeemaker  Wonderful stuff, and I wouldn´t be surprised if it was released on cd soon, because they´ve managed to cook up a record deal since their debut. ------------- “The Guide says there is an art to flying or rather a knack. For me, it's William D. Drake's The Rising of the Lights. He's not been added to the archives yet, but this album is just a beautiful collage of the best elements of prog, psych, pop, folk and everything in between. Very complex at times, but never once sacrificing melody and charm. It ought to be topping everybody's lists, IMO, but for now he remains a frustratingly well-kept secret. |

I haven't listened to Leprous enough to make a firm call yet. Still have only heard the promo single from Opeth. Extremely excited about the new Cynic EP. Listening to Tartar Lamb II for the first time right now. Spotify has made this process so much less expensive.
I've heard (in addition to the ones in the sig)
Yes - Fly from Here - pleasant, could have been (much) worse
Wobbler - Rites at Dawn - the actual new Yes album. Fun retro prog
Leprous - Bilateral - a big step forward
Make a Rising - well done, a little scattered
Phideaux - Snowtorch - good but Doomsday was better
BtBAM - Parralax - my favorite album of theirs yet, top ten for me
Battles - Glass Drop - solid but definitely a notch down from Mirrored
Disconnect - Indivision - middle of the road modern prog
Nemo - Revolusion - middle of the road modern prog
Fen - Epoch - over-rated. Could have been very nice, but got boring.
Devin Townsend - Ghost - very nice ambient album, unassuming, not very prog
Decemberists - King is Dead - not prog, some nice songs. Abandoned prog fans. Not prog.
Scale the Summit - the Collective - the kids are getting better
Sky Architect - A Dying Man's Hymn - pretty straightforward heavy prog
Gillian Welch's new album is great
Fleet Foxes new album is better than their first which really didn't do too much for me. New one is good, not great.
